"Hi Hana! I know how hard it can be to convince a doctor to prescribe Met when you are getting great numbers! I switched from Met regular to ER because I was getting horrible GI problems. Initially, the ER didn't seem to be working. It…"

"I finally got the numbers. Metformin SR costs about 3 x as much as the ordinary. It's still a pretty inexpensive medication, but will the NHS provide it for me?"

"Thanks or the answer people. I don't need to increase my doses, but I do want to keep my BG even more level than it is. I rarely go over 6 [108], but that does tend to be a morning thing. However, I find even that unpredictable. I'll…"

Would i get any benefit from going to Metformin SR ?

I use 2 x 500mg per day of the normal Metformin. I'm finding it difficult to time my doses for maximum benefit, seeing I eat my main meal at midday and need to deal with DP and overnight. I go for very tight control A1cs in the 5s always. It occurred to me I might get better cover if I asked my doctor for the SR version instead. I don't need a bigger dose, just better cover. The normal reach their peak of action in about an hour. I have no digestive symptoms. I've been on this medication at the…See More

Hi Hana. Thanks for the friends invitation. We have some books in common--I'm sure we'll find other things to talk about!

Just curious: what was the reason for yesterday's bank holiday? Here in the US we had "Memorial Day" to commemorate military deaths in battle. (I'm also curious as to why they are "bank holidays" in UK as opposed to "legal holidays" in the US -- are only the banks allowed/supposed to be closed? (Thirty years ago, you couldn't even find a corner convenience store open on US legal holidays. Nowadays, it seems like banks and office buildings are the only things that are closed, and the stores are open with huge sales.)

But Brava, Hana. You're fighting The Good Fight! I am still amazed at how resistant health professionals are to the lo-carb approach, since it so obviously works. Perhaps it is a reluctance to let go of their hard-won knowledge from their schooling. None of us like to admit that our dearly held notions are simply all wrong. Unfortunately, these particular dearly held notions do a lot of damage to others......Take care.....

Hana---Just wanted to say how much it pleases me that you keep so closely in volved with the long-running "How Many Carbs....." Discussion. Because of the way it crops up so regularly, I've gradually come to believe it represents one of our best educational forums. The misconceptions about the process of gaining control are so profound and persistent, and your answers are always clear and to the point and helpful and supportive. Thanks!.....Judith

Hi Hana,
I am just checking in to say hi and ask how you are doing? I hope things are, leveling out for you and the worry is easing up a bit.
We have cooler weather now and hopefully have snow in our future before long. Right now it looks like rain is moving in.for this week. I will love it. That will save me from having to go out to water some of my plants I think the neighbors watch me a little suspiciosly when it is this cold and I am outside watering. I have a bunch of Azalea bushes that have a tendency to die out during cold weather when they dry out too much. I had used these large soda bottles filled with water or plant food to feed and water my bushes in the cooler weather. There is a plastic stake you can screw on the end of the bottle and just turn it over asnd stick it in the ground. by the bush. One day when i had several out there a little neighbor boy came over and pulled them all up. I asked him what he was doing asnd he tokld me he was helping me. He said someone had left trash in my yard around my bushes and he cleaned it up for me. I has ro smile and thank him. He was such a small little fellow and it was so sweet. I never did tell him it was wrong. I just try to hide the bottles better now. He sure did make me smile though.
I hope you are doing well. I am with you and thinking of you.
Blessings be to you.
