Actually I'm Type II with associated genetic Hemochromatosis (3rd generation).
Diagnosed Type II since June 6, 2005 (my D-Day of sorts), third generation Type II. My father was diagnosed in his early 50's, me @ 45, my grandfather I'm not sure - I think in his 60s.

My grandfather lost both legs and passed away at 71 in 1973 (he lived in Scotland) , my father made it to 79 and other than being diabetic he was fairly healthy until about 75. He lost both legs, parts of both hands, and was blind for the last couple of years.

I don't think either of them really changed their diets, both continued to drink, etc.

I've adopted the GI diet by Rick Gallop which has worked for me so far. Additionally I have extremely high levels of iron in my blood (I hope you don't mind but that's where I got "C Irons" from, I do live in Norwood, my first name initial is C).
My iron is about twice normal but has jumped at times (usually in the winter) to 5 and 6 times the norm. Bad for the liver & joints - like being diabetic - walk - diet - water.

Beyond that my son is epileptic, has had four brain surgeries, and one VNS (pace maker like) device installed to control his siezures, so my diabetes is nothing compared to what he goes through.

My Garden, The Grow Room

Posted on March 17, 2013 at 5:31pm 5 Comments

Coming close to the time here in Boston to set up my grow room. Last year I visited Home Depot and left spending a small fortune, but the items I bought should last a decade or better.

First I bought several 6' plastic folding tables at $45 a piece, then a 4' Lithonia four lamp shop light for each table…

My Garden, A Conscious Choice.

Posted on March 10, 2013 at 11:16am 8 Comments

Well I'm gearing up for this year's garden and had the epithany that beyond just getting outside for the exercise, peace of mind, it really is a conscious choice about what I'll be eating later on in the season and beyond. I still have some squash mash for amazing squash muffins, tomato paste for pizza still in the freezer from last fall.

So I'll be setting up my "grow tables" in the next couple of weeks in the basement to get things going.…

Hi C Irons. Thanks for the friend add. I look forward to watching your garden grow. I like to plant a few impatiens and petunias for the Ruby-throated Hummers, due to show up here early in April, as well as our herbs.
