My exit from the D closet has been slow but steady. I started by telling a few people when we were discussing getting the flu shot. Then we were talking about the fall and maple syrup. I mentioned that I love real maple syrup but dislike sugar-fre...

The troubleshooting he had me told me that I would have done was take out the battery, let it rest for 10 mins or so and then put it back in. Since I had already taken it out and put it back in, he said that that was fine. I think I'll stop and pi...

The Duracell are slightly shorter, apparently, which could explain the contact issue with the battery.

That's not a low battery warning - but it does mean that pump was not receiving battery power. If I remember correctly, the two times I had this happen with my Paradigm (which I wore from 2004-2008), the customer support people told me that it was...

It is not recommended to use anything but Energizer and they are not kidding when they say to only use that brand.. I had bad experiences with other batteries.. and perhaps your battery was not good..You should call Medtronics and see if they can ...

I had got the low battery alarm the day before so I changed it, about 24 hours earlier. I use Duracell Power Pix, the electronics/ low weight one. They last for months usually. I am curious if it is just a coincidence that I changed the battery Fr...

It sounds like your battery died... I had this happen last weekend at my 20 year HS reunion.. I looked at my pump and noticed that I must have missed the beep..sometimes that happens!!...I have mine set for a quick beep. Are you using Energizer ba...

My exit from the D closet has been slow but steady. I started by telling a few people when we were discussing getting the flu shot. Then we were talking about the fall and maple syrup. I mentioned that I love real maple syrup but dislike sugar-free stuff and one of the girls in my class asked if I was diabetic. She asked if it was for my whole life and I said no, only a few years. When people know that its a recent thing they want to know all the details about my dx and I gladly shared them. A f… Continue

Grad School!

I've survived my first full week of grad school! After three years in the working world, its a tough transition. Homework is tough to get used to. I'm also completely jobless, so I'm looking for a part time job. My diabetes has mostly behaved. The first day of orientation we went for a campus tour and I could feel myself falling fast. I didn't want to draw attention to myself so I jsut downed some glucose tabs and continued. I guess I'm not totally out of the diabetes closet. This is the first t… Continue

Follow Up

So I don't have mono and my white blood cells are back at a normal level. My lab work from last month had shown a pretty low white count so that was making me nervous; more than the mono.
The internet is a dangerous thing! I started researching low blood cell counts and mono symptoms and of course I get some really scary things.
Since everything was normal, my doc thinks that I got a cold virus or something similar right as I was fighting off something else, so it took up residence in my throat.… Continue

Post Diabetes Stress Disorder

I've had a sore throat and various other blah symptoms for the past few weeks, so I finally decided it was time to go the doctor. A quick strep test was negative, so she thinks I might have mono. She prints the lab slip and I walk down the hall to the lab. At this point, this is feeling like a a repeat of 2 years ago. When I get to the lab, the same phlebotomist that took my blood when my doc found glucose in my urine, is the one working.
Now I'm waiting for the results. I've not been this nervo… Continue

A few things

I have recently upped my jogging speed to 6mph and I've hardly noticed a difference! I can still run for 20 mins on "Random Hills" without feeling any more tired and without a BS difference.
I've been eating restaurant food way too much. My weight has remained the same (see above) but I'm afraid it will catch up to me in my A1C. I've been too lazy to make lunches lately and many of my friends want to meet for dinner or brunch. I have made lunch for tomorrow at least. Soup, carrots with hummus an… Continue

thank you. My country house is at 200 km from Lyon, near the Vercors, near Die in the Drôme. I never took a fish and after 5 minutes waiting the trout which never comes I look around and make photos, read a book...I'm not a really good fisherwoman! I'm like the colonel O'neill in Stargate SGC... it's just to take a walk with my brother and sister! Your french is good, bravo.

hey jackie! i just read your post in the young adults page and was wondering what kind of work you're doing in politics. i'm from the northeast as well, but am working as an Americorps VISTA at a consortium of community health clinics that serve under- and uninsured people in berkeley and oakland. is that the sort of stuff you're pursuing with your master's in public health policy? it's always good to get connected to folks doing similar work in the field : )

How are the silhouettes going - that's what I use & have much better control. Those needles are really scary at first!! I now have stopped using inserter so I don't have so much bruising. Have to do it with my eyes closed though! lol good luck to you!
