I almost always bring back up supplies with me as part of my kit. I keep limited extra supplies in my kit - insulin, syringe, and infusion set in addition to the meter and strips. I also keep back up…

Thanks nel, that's good info. I don't mean to change the subject, but this does touch on an important point - diabetes advocacy which I belive is so important, and appreciate people like Barb who make a difference and bring information to all of us.…

I probably should have shared more about how it works in Ontario. OHIP does also pay for supplies, and will send a cheque every 3 months ($600). You only need to keep receipts should they ask for them. They will cover a new pump every 5 years, altho…

Hi

Thanks for the input, I have reduced the nph, and also the short acting humalog, my feeling is that the infection that I ve been dealing with was at one time over powering in my body , is now fading as a result of the IV therapy Im taking, thus the amount of insulin needed is not the same for when the infection was kicking my butt, so Im just reducing doses across the board and watching my sugars closely

Hi Jamie

I see that you have a wide range of information on using different pumps, I ve been a type 1 for 26 years, and well would always look to new ways that would give me tighter control, Im currently taking humalog and Nph which require seperate shots, as they do not mix, so Im taking 6, 7 shots a day, unfortunately my insurance only covers insulin, not the pump, any suggestions to get on pump therapy, one solution is I can try and qualify for a pell grant , as a benefit of the grant they provide insurance which I think would cover the pump, any input is appreciated..

No sloppier than my house keeping. Sure, I think it is awesome of have such a museum. I wish you were in the SoCal area. The city leads itself to different than the normal museums. We so many of them. I love old telephones and have been collecting candlestick phones for a while. I have been thinking about the same thing but don't have much room!!!

I hear you on the learning curve with the Animas. I had originally been on on the Medtronic Paradigm 522, but was only test driving. After 4 months of learning how to use the pump (all on my own - no English educators here in Montreal) - I told them I was going on holidays (cruise). They asked for the pump back - toot sweet. After 4 months I was addicted to the pump (40 years of MDI was so not cool for me anymore ). So, I called up Animas, told them of my decision, and within 3 days had a pump to take on my holidays 2 days later. I had to LEARN how to use it during my holidays, but I found it very easy compared to the MM (find the Animas screen easier on my eyes). Oops, just noticed the darn pic I took from photobucket below is now gone. Not liking Photobucket lately for pictures - you post them - then BING - gone in 20 seconds (isn't there a movie of that title).

Hey Jamie - just commented to a blog of yours about your endo troubles. Came to your page to see abit more about you - and you're an Animas pumper like myself. That is one thing you are very lucky to have in Ontario - is the pumping program. This is one of my reasons for moving back to Ontario when I retire (7 years) - as currently here in QC - unless you have private work insurance - you pay for a pump out of your pocket. I have quite a few friends in the Ottawa area that are now on pumps due to your program as well (I grew up in Ottawa).
Anyway, hang in there, and hope your new job is going well. It's always that first 3 months at a new job, where we "try" not to take any time off for medical appointments.
