Hello, I am soon going to be trialing a CGM as I no longer have any hypo awareness. My blood usually gets as low as 1.1 then I collapse but up until that point I am ok. This is due to having type 1…Continue

"Hello Sue R, I have a Medtronic CGM and find it a god send. I think you will find if you set it up to suit you correctly it will warn you of an impending low in plenty of time to do something about it. Mine is set so that when i get to 6 it starts…"

I am Diabetic. Here's how it works. My insulin pump and continuous glucose meter (CGM).

"Hi just watched Scotts video and I have the same pump and CGM as Scott. Its just a part of life and I don't see what all the fuss is about. I consider myself very lucky to have this wonderful equipment as I can remember when I first got…"

"Hi, I am having a trial next week of the Medtronic CGM. I am on a pump but having had type 1 diabetes for over 40 years I no longer have any hypo warnings. I can go down to 1.1 and not be aware of anything being wrong, but at that point I usually…"

"No I dont believe so. The insertion needle is a doozie (like I mentioned before) and I believe the red marks are the bodies response to being poked and jabbed. After removal there is no hardness to the site like is common for my infusion sets, so I…"

"curious. Are these not scar tissue? Solo, does the neosporin lessen the mark in general? Im kind of weary about touching the spots and tend to just let them heal. Although, alcohol and Neosporin cant hurt. Thanks Jennifer, glad to know were not…"

"Well per my CDE when I insert I go for a ~75 degree angle and then do Skin Tac under the adhesive pad before I glue it down. Something about that that works better for less body trauma so hence less redness etc.... When I do the sites on my back I…"

"I definitely have red dots as well from any angeled insertions - the Sils, and the CGM sensors. I don't think this is uncommom - have this alot on the forum."

Jennifer replied to Jane Goffin's discussion 'Continuous GlucosmMonitors'
"I don't believe there is different sets for the CGM. The Silhouette is an insulin infusion set, as is the Mio. I believe the CGM is one type of sensor."

"I havent gone around the back yet. When I had the CGM on, I could get 3 days, but any longer and I end up with a red spot and scar tissue. Its a real issue for me. I was using the quick sets with no problem, but something about the angle of the CGM…"

"Its no issue once I get it in. I usually have my sensor site on my flank, and my infusion site on my abdomen (5-6" gap minimum) and I rotate both every 5-6 days. So "change out day" (site and sensor) sucks, but after that its smooth…"

oh, wow, you have the newest Spirit pump!! I'd love to hear more about it, and how long you've had it. as far as mine goes, I've been pumping almost 20 of my 42 years as a type1, and it seemed my skin changed when I went through "the change"....I used to be able to go 3, or 4 days without having to change my set, and now I'm changing every other day. occasionally I'll manage 3 days, but very rare. I have a lot of scar tissue from all the pokes.

hi, Jane, welcome! Here is the New Member Guide. I see you've had it almost as long as I have. I have the Accu-chek Spirit pump. Please tell me if you have any questions about the community, or diabetes in general. I know mine changed a lot when I got into my 50s, and TuD has been an enormous help.
