Do you consider yourself to be a hypochondriac?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Stemwinder Feb 22. 4 Replies

I started thinking about whether I'm a hypochondriac or not after my doctor's appointment the other day. We reviewed the 22 medications that I'm currently taking every day, some twice a day -…Continue

"No, but I'm T2 and I have swallowed a lot of pills. That doesn't make me hypochondriac. I just did what I had to. You gotta do what you gotta do."

"You might want to talk to your doctor about your doses of insulin and make an adjustment, if necessary. Perhaps you're taking too much insulin when you go to bed. The danger is if you go into a sugar low while you're sleeping."

Are you ashamed of having diabetes? How do you get past the shame?

I've always been ashamed of the fact that I'm T1 diabetic. Why? Because it's caused so many problems in my life, I feel many people think I'm a "weak" person, and somewhat fragile. I've had to endure a ruptured appendix, a kidney transplant, and a couple of other surgeries over the past few years, and it's not something I'm proud of. Every time a friend or family member walks into the hospital to visit me, I've got a plethora of tubes and needles hooked up to every orface of my body. It's…See More

My sister is getting tested to see if she is a match!

Hi Nel,

Thanks for checking up on me. Ironically, since my last blog, one of my sisters has come forward and is getting tested. She knows nothing about the blog I posted, or about how I was feeling.

The doctors have found out she is "a match", but that is just the first step. She still has to go through a ton of tests to see if our anti-bodies are compatible, etc.... So... so far, so good, but it's going to take some time. It doesn't help that I worry all the time - about… Continue

How do you ask for a kidney?

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 3:44pm 12 Comments

Have you ever wanted something so bad, you'd do anything for it? What I want is something that I can't buy in a store. It's not something I'm craving, like a hamburger or an ice cream. It's a kidney - a key body organ.

My problem is that I can't find the words to ask anyone for a kidney. I haven't asked anyone because I'm fearful of rejection. Instead, I've sort of expected that someone would come forward and just offer one, but that hasn't been the case. It's been two years since I… Continue

Discrimination in the workplace

Over the past few years, I've worked as a writer, writing installation manuals and specification sheets for a software company. When I found out I needed a kidney transplant two years ago, I advised my superiors at work and ever since, they have been trying to get rid of me. My boss has tried to make me quit so I wouldn't receive any benefits, nor have a chance to go on unemployment insurance. But they know if they fire me or lay me off it will be case of unlawful dismissal.

Now, it… Continue

Hi, Janice,
Thanks for your comment in the depression group. I am going to counseling and have tried antidepressants. There's a lot of sadness in my life right now and am trying to deal with them the best I can. I try to count my blessings and think happy thoughts, but it's hard right now. you are in my prayers.
