2:00pm...111. Left to pick up my best childhood friend from the airport. Because we both we hungry (both diabetic too) we rushed off to eat an area well-know favorite rib restaurant. I really behaved myself...as did she. We both ate 3 of the 8 rib...

Just a curious question. I recently opened a box of pods from my latest 3 month supply. The first 2 pods have beeped every time they delivered my basal insulin. I've been used to that one little click. Is this something new...as it is much louder ...

Elaine and Lee...I prefer to wear the pod on my back. I place it just above the waist band of my jeans or skirt. You've got to be careful that it's not over a lower rib or too close to the spine. I've NEVER had any problem with it there. If I were...

You're not saying where this certain area is. Scar tissue can certainly impact insulin absorption. I'm assuming that you're avoiding the 2" area around your navel as indicated on the OmniPod placement guide.

Hi there...just adding my 2 cents worth. My granddaughter was diagnosed on September 23 and her brother's birthday was the 27th. This was our challenge how to bolus for pizza followed by cake and ice cream. First off...we had the usual cake and ic...

Do Insulin Pumps Lead to Less Insulin Demand?

Since starting on the OmniPod (my first insulin pump)..I'm seeing way better BG levels. I'm not sure, but it also seems that I'm using less insulin per day...please don't say duh

Sleeping with the Pod

I am a new OmniPod user (23 January)... Any advice regarding sleeping with the Pod? I have deliberately avoided sleeping ON the pod. Is it necessary to avoid sleeping directly on the pod? Getting a good night's rest is not my strong suit to begin with.

Do you crochet too? My mother use to do it and never taught me. I always had the urge to do it. I took some classes and looked on Youtube and now I do lots of hats!! Once I get out of the hat phase I will move to ponchos or socks!!! I was trying to do some booties for my sisters. Both of them were pregnant at the same time! They were mentally trying to get me pregnant and of course it didn't work. But I tried making the booties and that didn't work either. I just didn't like how they looked. There is this guy on youtube that can make maryjane booties and booties to look like converse tennis shoes. That is an awesome baby bag in the pictures!!

hey don't be stressed out....When I first found out about my diabetes 2 years ago I arguesd with the doctor. I still considered myself somewhat in denial but I don't let it get me down. I see it as a challenge to live life in a healthier manner (except around holiday time) :) If you read som of my other blogs on the Type 2 forums, I am sick of taking meds, tired of check my BS, sick of being sick of nauseaed. I wished my endo would put me on insulin. I think it would be easier with my life style.

I can only imagine what Type 1's go through. Type 2 is not as bad but can be just as challengingin. Keep smiling!!!

Go Nana! That's a nice story. She is so lucky to have you!

I'm so sorry for my delayed reply. It took me a while to find the bracelets. I originally got them on ebay, but they are now sold here at an unfortunately higher (much higher) price: http://www.design-a-band.com/medical_bracelets. If you google "silicone diabetes bracelet", you will get various other options. I really wanted the peanut allergy and diabetes on one and this was the best I came up with.
Again, I'm sorry about that low and how badly it made you feel. I'm hoping for no repeat episodes, but if there is, it sounds like you will be well prepared! Lo

I'm sure it was pretty scary - and it's a good point that at that level, processing of thought is likely impaired, which makes the fact that the PDM won't allow you to deliver a bolus seem rather wise. I also hope you don't have to experience that again! If Caleb ever gets that low, I usually give him a sugar tablet or two no matter what he is about to eat and let that hit his system. I was counseled when he was first diagnosed that when you eat a lot, it takes longer for any of it to hit your system. So I try to get the right amount of fast acting to work right away. I have actually seen this theory to be true now that he has the CGM. Meals seem to take a surprisingly long time to affect his blood sugar.

Hi again Janice - I don't think you even need to turn the PDM off, you can just use the arrow button to increase the BG number.

Similar to my dad's family...my father was born in 1920. My dad contracted dyphtheria at around age 4...he survived, but his 2 younger siblings didn't make it. His father died in his thirties on New year's Eve...and my dad was asleep in the same bed at the time...dad was 5 by then. My grandmother was pregnant with my aunt/godmother when her husband (my grandfather) died in his sleep! She raised the 2 children by earning her living as the village seamstress...and she never remarried because she believed that when you married, you married once...regardless. There however had been rumors of interested suitors...but that's as far as it went. I come from a long line of strong independant women (independant out of necessity!)
My view is that nothing is accidental/coincidental....there's a purpose for everything...and thus, a purpose for you to be here...yes, you ARE blessed.
