Beating the dead horse...anyone know of insurance for a type 1 in SoCal?

So I was laid off about 3 weeks ago from a great job with great benefits....company closed the doors very unexpectedly. Bummer.I am now in the boat that so many unfortunate diabetics find themselves in: that sh*tty boat of zero insurance. I have an option to do COBRA, of course....for a mere $550/month. Seeing as I'll be on unemployment for the unforseeable future which will rake in a whopping $1800 a month (before taxes), its really starting to freak me out thinking about paying that much for…See More

"Oh the NPH horrid stuff. I finally ended up splitting the daily dose into 6 shots every 4 hours to do the basal function. I think total daily dose of NPH was approximately equal to total lantus. You need something fast for meals."

No, they just put a pricetag on the pens ( dont really know why) so i know how much they cost, but we still get all of it for free. the only time it costs i should think is if someone who isnt a diabetic wants to buy a tester, strips or insulin.. then it costs.. oh and if you are on tablets like metformin, etc. but its very cheap.
the medical system is very good here i think. diabetics cant help that they are diabetics so i guess the government decided to give insulin out for free so that they wouldnt have people who couldnt afford insulin dying.
Var så god :)
What are you gonna do in sweden?

Hi Jen!
If you are a resident, insulin, needles, testers and pumps are free. Which is really fantastic. MY novorapid shots (one packet 4 pens) cost 396 sek. (54.89 dollars)
lantus (5 pens) cost 596 sek (82.62) dollars. So i guess that is what you would pay.
Hope you will enjoy sweden :)
