A1C creeping up

My A1c and fasting glucose results have crept up too from 5.8 to 6.1 on my last labs. That pushed me over the edge of normal into what I'm thinking are pre-diabetic results. I'm not wanting to go t...

It's a matter of symantics. I had bariatric surgery over four years ago. I didn't have diabetes then, but I definitely had reactive hypoglycemia, which is frequent precursor to diabetes onset later. Bariatric surgery and the resulting massive weig...

With a A1c of 6.6 is great, it is below 7. As for the word Prediabetis, really means it is a warning sign that all of us have to take better care of ourselves. I went 6 years before going on any tipe of meds. With the seminars I've been to on Diab...

Well, my dear, I was diagnosed with a fasting BG of 135 and an A1c of 6.6. While I don't particularly care for my doc, I am very grateful that she caught it early. With a great deal of discipline and a do-over on the way I eat and exercise, I've g...

I found out about this site somehow through word of mouth. I can't remember exactly where, but I found it while at work. I took a look at it several months ago and then was fortunate to meet Manny Hernandez. I spoke to him about having created another site for people who have had bariatric surgery: bariatricathletes.ning.com. He told me about how this is a topic of interest on tudiabetes as well. I am happy to contribute in any way that I can. I have been involved with diabetes through work for the last nine years.

Is this prediabetes?

I got a lab test back showing my fasting glucose as 101 mg/dl and HbA1c at 6.1. I did an online calculation for that and it shows an average bg of 139 mg/dl for that A1c level. All of the online resources are seeming to point to these lab results as indications of prediabetes. I really didn't think that I was at any risk for it. I guess that I will have it checked out further. Strange...

book recommendation: "Diabetes: Sugar Coated Crisis. Who Gets It, Who Profits, and How to Stop It" by David Spero, RN

I read this book recently. It was recommended to me by someone at work. I am in love with this book! It shows a different and important context for understanding Type 2 diabetes in terms of vulnerability to illness brought about by stress and a toxic environment. The book makes the case that a social support system and sense of community are social approaches that contribute to well being. I have read this book once, but it will be worth reading again soon. This book, it's content, and the autho… Continue

UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public - link to Dr. Robert H. Lustig's lecture: "Sugar: the Bitter Truth"

This is one of the most informative talks I have ever heard on the subject of the effect of too much sugar on insulin and obesity. Here is the link: http://www.uctv.tv/search-details.aspx?showID=16717

A few key takeaways:

- fructose and ethanol/alcohol have several similar toxic qualities.
- fiber is intentionally removed from several foods in production to prolong longevity of the food for export around the world.
- fiber contributes to satiety and is often missing in food choices.

There is… Continue

bariatricathletes.ning.com

I started a website on the topic of athletics for ppl who have had weight loss surgery. It's really just a small site with mostly just me in there blogging with a few friends. I posted a lot about my life story and how the surgery was just a small part of the puzzle in the daily commitment to improvement and health. I write about the struggles I've been through and how seeing them differently and reaching out to others in various ways continues to make a difference. I have been through quite a l… Continue

Hi Sweetie! Just to comment back on your comment of my page. There is so much to tell and picking the right times to say them all.

I tell you thou, life is so much better than what it was 10 years ago. That was the ending of 31 years of all kinds of abuse. So I know first hand that what ever comes your way there will be a solution to it or an end to it by putting your foot down. The main thing is to take it day by day.

Believe me, whatever headache and or heartache you get from your struggles there will always be some sunshine at the end. You just have to reach it and claim it. For a long time I didn't know how to reach for what was due fully mines.

But as day by day goes, I didn't realize how much of an impact I had put on alot of people. So when the victories started coming my way, there was alot of people telling me what a strong woman I am. That's when I realized that all the little things you do will one day come together as a huge part in your life. Humblness. As you say, that's the best feeling to get when you are humbled.

After I go thru whatever I have to struggle with that day, I feel so humbled to were I want to cry. Cause I will always remember what I had to go thru to be were I as now. No more in the streets being beated, no more being hungry, no more being tortured and raped, no more being used and maniplilated, no more being verbal and physically abused, no more having drugs and alcohol around me cause I feel it disrespects my home, no more having someone cheating on me, no more having someone arguing in my house, no more pain but everyday struggling.

The struggling I go thru is way better than what it used to be. I'm a better person, a way experienced person who has scars in her life. But the scars are just reminders were I came from to get to this point. So whenever something happens, I just breathe in and breathe out the negativness.

I'm still alive after all the times I should of been dead. So the problems we face is really nothing but the size of a paperclip. Just like a paperclip, it can be bented, twisted, straighten.....it's in your hands just give it to God.

I'm grateful for friends like you, any questions about what happened to me in the past feel free to ask. What happened to me is something that can be taught to avoid. Sharing my past is something for others to learn and be cautious about.

Your doing looking and doing great, keep your chin up...there's always enough sunshine for everyone. Patti

Hello Jennifer:

How are you this Fine morning? Hopefully you are doing Well.

Thank you for the Wonderful compliment. I wasn't expecting that. :) You were amazingly right on, about the videos that I chose. You are obviously gifted.

That is so Nice to have Good memories involving the video,"We Are The World". A Powerful song for such an important cause but also rightly usable for other necessary causes also. Only in Gr. 5...Wow! The Good ole days. :)

I tried to put one of Shania's videos("Forever And For Always")on my page but it is protected so I wasn't allowed to. Oh well.... :)

Have a Lovely day.
