Diabetes and Carnival Cruise

Posted on July 8, 2010 at 7:01pm 3 Comments

I am going on a Carnival Cruise, I will have my insulin pump. I will also bring pump supplies, insulin and syringes(incase pump malfunctions)in a carry on bag. Should I be concerned about going through security? will I encounter a problem with my syringes.

Glad to read that your cruise went well - except for that mishap in Mexico. Other then that - did you find you had pretty good BG's during the cruise? I know for me (I do 1-2 cruises a year - I love to be pampered - since I usually am the cook/cleaner/crew on our own sailboat (have a 30' Catalina) and we're doing a trip next month for a few weeks ) - anyway - my BG's when I'm cruising both with commercial and my own - I use less insulin (have to reduce basal) - and it's almost like I have no diabetes. With the pump I find it much easier to adjust the basal setting then with MDI - but on my next commericial cruise (NCL in Dec) - I'm going to try cruising without pump - and will just remove it when I wear (or can fit) into my tight little dresses I want to wear in the evening (will monitor BG frequently and shot up with fast acting insulin as needed - but highly doubt I'll have to do this if I'm running around).
Anway, didn't mean to write so much, as usual, verbal diarreaha of the finger tips - that's me - write, write, write .

Jenny - I wrote this in a forum posting - but incase you didn't subscribe to it - here's my little two cents worth on your upcoming cruise (can you pack me in your luggage - huh? huh? huh?).
Jenny - I've been on 3 cruises since starting on the pump. It's not like the airport where you are screened to come on board. Make sure you ask for a sharps container - I only started asking for this on a few years ago - makes for less crap to bring back home (used sharps) - just leave it with the cruise line - and then you have more room for souvenirs etc.! I bring everything to take care of my diabetes regime (even a loaner pump) - so don't worry - you will have lots of fun!
