Someone please tell me how much insulin they cut to lose weight. I currently cut my insulin by about 30 units through low carbs and excercise. So how long will I have to wait for the pounds to melt…Continue

Anyone else know that you are not supposed to wear our pump against your skin?

Or was it just me? I was (subbing) teaching a few weeks ago and decided to wear my pump in my bra. It was an active class so I was running around a bit. By lunch I was feeling like my blood sugar was…Continue

It's OK to miss chocolate cake... with pink frosting.. and sprinkles!

Well German Chocolate in my case. I don't have very many pre-diabetes memories, but German Chocolate for my birthday is one of the TOP 3. Every birthday, my Gran would bake me a beautiful 5 layer German Chocolate Cake from scratch. I remember walking into the house after school and smelling the warmth of chocolate filling the house. My name squiggled in pink piping with a big 7. Candles lit and blown, song was sung, presents were opened, and a gigantic slice of cake just for me... the smell of… Continue

The Stench of Insulin Never Smelled So Good.

My Gran has a new puppy and I seriously believe that she is one of the cutest little dogs I have ever layed my eyes on. Honey, is her name, chosen to compliment her fawn color and sweet personality. I went over to see Gran lastnight and there Honey was no bigger than a mans hand, bouncing around, growling and playing as puppies are known to do. Of course I was super excited, but I gave Punkin, my Gran's older dog some love first. So she wouldn't feel left out, and then promptly picked Honey up… Continue

The ever so dreaded.. weight loss mission. Dun dun dddduuunnnn

LAMENESS is the only way I can describe the task of losing weight. I am Type 1 and currently facing the weight after insulin resistance blues. I have cut my carbs, and thus my insulin by 20 units. I am walking everyday, and bicycling on the weekend. I am logging everything I eat, which is comprised of mostly veggies and lean proteins. I use app.

Although, I know I am making good progress because my bloodsugars (and my mood) have been quite lovely, I still have my… Continue

I think the point of all the running books (I got Chi Running today but didn't get to it...) is to run more smoothly.  They provide some tips about dropping your arms and positioning your core and stuff that are useful.  I am not totally automatic about it yet as I will run smoothly for a while and then hit a street w/ traffic or something else that will get me 'fired up' and I'll run faster and blow my form.  Or, of course, hauling out the meter or the jelly beans or whatever?  Chi Running seems to have more specifics/ drills to get your form smoother.  Galloway doesn't go into a lot of detail but I found several of his tips useful.

What are the endo teams unrealistic expectations?  Re Food?  I haven't ever seen a doctor who recommended less than about 200 G of carbs 45-60x3 and 15-30x 3 but I eat more like 15-7-20-7 to 15- 55 (incl post dinner beer/snacks?) and maybe 15 more later on if I'm on a roll which is maybe 100-150G?  If it's a number goal that they just read at you, I would not worry about it, I would worry about fixing whatever numbers are off but it sounds like you had a level day today?  When I saw how easy it is to do that every day w/ less carbs, w/ the bonus of slowly dropping lbs, it made sense.  I still am not sure I'd ever do the 30G/ day that seems popular here but less than a doc recommends seems ok?

I hear you on the being alone!  There's one other guy @ work w/ a pump but he's in a different department and we have not connected too much.  I am probably running maybe 3x/ week and trying to hit the elliptical a couple more times.  I've read a few running books (Galloway's Book of Running/ Marathon You Can Do It and am now into Born to Run, a xmas gift) and am not sure I'd say go out and double your miles to lose weight?  The books say you are supposed to add 10%/ week if you are interested in running more I think?  Which is not to say that I don't occasionally crank it up, LOL...Chi Running is probably next, we'll see though?

Cutting insulin and, of course, food back probably burnt off the weight as much as exercising but the exercising is kind of a positive thing to do and I like being able to sort of be in better shape than a lot of my 'straight' (non-diabetic, not that there's anything wrong with that...) peers?  Some of the motivation for that is that when I was bigger, BP went up, Cholesterol went up etc.  I was still in the 5s or 6s pretty much for years, although I was quite a bit more sporadic in getting the tests done, etc.

Re the beer, most of them (90%?) are probably Bud Select 55 w/ 1.2G of carbs.  Last night, OTOH, my bg was lower (ran in Nike Free, sort of a different flavor of shoes...) so I had a Guinness, went up to 113 so I did CB plus a shade extra for 'overlooked' carbs (I do that sort of thing a lot too...probably not safe?) and ran down in the 50s@ night.  Do you have a CGM?  I think that is what got me from 5.8 to 5.4?  I am intrigued to see if I can keep that up.
