Hi Jeremy. I just responded to a posting for someone whom you had commented to also, it was regarding the hairloss issue. You said that you thought hairloss was due to nutritional deficiencies etc. I told this lady to Google Telogen effluvium, as I had the same diagnosis after giving birth to both of my children. It is temporary, and will resolve. I assume this is what her child had, based on what the doctors told her.
Anyways, I would also like to be available to you and your child as a resource for ny information or advice. I have been a diabetic for 20 years, and am a first year nursing student. I have working with a lot of people and kids working in healthcar throughout the years, and have a lot of experience. Please email me if you have any questions that I might be able to answer...

Peace! - Brandy

Where does he live? I am in Michigan - I see you are from Buffalo originally - I was born in NY but grew up for the most part in Michigan. I spent the last (5) years in TX as part of a islet cell transplantation study - it was a great experience and for two years I was completely off of insulin :) I'll tell you the key to great control is to test and test often. I have become sort of addicted to knowing what my bs sugar is at any time of the day. I work as a personal trainer and in marketing and my days are never alike, which makes it hard to manage my sugars somedays - Good to hear from you and I am sure you'll have a great visit with your son....you should share this site with him!

I was eleven when I was diagnosed....I have lived a very normal life despite diabetes. I am in great control and have made a point to try and help others cope. I have two children, ages 16 & 10 who are just wonderful! I have been on shots, pump and was also a paraticipant in a FDA study for islet cell transplantation. It's a challenge, but keeping your sons spirits up is critical. Sometimes it helps just to talk with others who can relate - that doesn't always mean discuss negative things but positive as well....

I'm new to this

My 11 year old son was recently diagnosed with type 1. I know very little about diabetes and know from experience that I can learn much more truth from talking to others dealing with it, then by reading news articles, or other information that is mostly tainted by the drug companies.
