Jerry's First Month

Well I have known about my diabetes for a whole month now. In that month I have experienced the good/bad and ugly:

Bad/Ugly
1) Found out I had a "disease"
2) Got told to stab my fingers 3-5x a day and bleed on this gizmo.
3) Got told to radically change my diet love of the beer and exercise
4) Was informed of all the wost case scenarios
5) Attended 3 of 4 sessions of a diabetes education class where everyone there was my parents age.
6) Went to a "diabetes expo" and was scared out of my mind by… Continue

Hi Jerry---had a great time with Virgil at Elephant's yesterday. Looks like we should definitely shoot for a weekend afternoon next time. Do introduce yourself to others who are responding to the minimeetup idea so we get used to staying in touch. At this point that's: JT and Jason Casey and Virgil and Kseniya......Look forward to meeting you soon!.....Judith

Jerry, my friend----Meet Virgil. He'd like to join us for an early afternoon get together and he actually knows his way around Portland. He suggested Elephant's Deli on NW 23rd. Can you get there? They do have a great beer/wine list. I'm going to start a Mini-Meet-up thread in the NW Group. And be sure to add each other as friends so we can go back and forth more easily.....More soon!.....

Hi Jerry, I'm Virgil, live in Multnomah Village (near Tigard). I had the hugest laugh when I read you went to the Expo and got scared out of your mind. It's not funny you were frightened; I've been there! I became T1 D when I was 23 back in '83. People just couldn't wait to tell me how screwed I was. It was like the slap on the butt one gets at birth- only they wouldn't stop! Yikes.

Relax, friend, you're going to be just fine. D in PDX as well, Virg
