Jess's story

On July 20th 2008 of this year I turned 17 however my journey started at the age of 15 years old.The paths Ive taken and the choices I made have not always been ideal but they where choices none the less and weather they where good or not seems less imperitive as the days roll along. The past is the past however the past has made my pancreas a few beta cells short of what it used to be.
So I say with great pride:
To

is humen. However back to my story. I was 15 in 2007 on and the date of May 1st I got a phone call I don't think I can ever truely forget. However it now seems MOOT more than 10 months after that fact but anyway. However on May 1st it all came together. I had reactive hypoglyceamia. Holy flying cows. <---------that was my reaction then. What that simply meant my pancreas when carbs got into my system over stumulated and sent out to much insulin. The only way to control this was diet. 15 years old going on 16 in 2 and a half months giving up all her little treats and life style. It's not that it was a very bad lifestyle. I ate three meals a day all pretty healthy with a couple of junky meals in there. So I entered that chapter of my life and I am glad it is over. Very, Very, VERY glad because it was a precarious balence constantly!

10 months latter that would come to end on March 8th 2008 after drawing for the MODY tests months we finally received it back. I was positive for MODY 3 and my pancreas had finally slowed down. For those of you who have never been Reactive Hypoglycemic and transitioned you would not ever understand the relief. It is much easier to inject multipule times a day than it is to control with diet and pills.

So I am MODY 3 and before anyone really asks about this MODY is like taking a Type 2 and a Type 1 meshing them into one body and adding an insane insulin sensitivity.Thats all the technical babble about my life but I felt it slightly relavent to post it :) here.

I am 17 years old now and I am going into my senior year of high school. I am an artist, a writer and loved by a lot of people. I have many hobbies, wishes, and dreams. I have diabetes, diabetes does not have me. It may catch me on some off days but it will never fully ever stop me. That is a attitude that has grown upon me slowly and I am still working to maintain it.

People ask me if I ever would go back to not having diabetes. It has become imbedded so deep in my personaility and made me stronger than I could ever be that I think I would feel naked without it in my life. I am what I am. Although that does not stop me from wishing for a cure. NEVER EVER stop wishing becuase wishing leads to dreaming and dreaming to doing. Here are some pictures of my life and of me to show you what I love and me.
