Herlinda that is amazing, I didnt' know people who were legally blind could drive! Do you use bioptics or any other low vision devices? Not that I'd be able to drive even with those, I'm just very curious now. :) I've heard of people with low visi...

I have been legally blind my entire life so cannot relate to the adjustment process, but I wanted to say that being blind doesn't have to mean being dependent or having to give up things you love doing! I'm also a professional in the blindness fie...

The Me Stuff!

Hey ya'll! Im a 22 yr old t1 diabetic since the age of 15. I would have never of known I had the betes if it were not for my eyes changing like a million times in 3 months! Getting my blood checked, i was immediatly rushed to Childrens Hospital here In Austin w/ a BG reading of 986. To this day, my diabetes has ben extremely aggressive no matter how well I take care of myself. I deal w multiple apathies, peripheral, autonomic and of course retinopathy which has now led me to become legally blind.
Im probably the most easy going, fun loving girl you will ever come across who loves laughing till I wanna pee my pants and my sides hurt! Im a huge HUGE music nerd/junkie (potato-potato right?) When the pain isnt to bad, i love the outdoors, esp if Im around water or getting dirty somewhere. I have 2 incredible men in my life, the first one being my pit terrior named LT (thats right HUGE charger fan!) and the second being an awesome man named Jon who has been with me through think cna thin for the past 3 years. Hes the one who keeps my head above water and wanting to never give up, though sometimes its hard to do.
In the past 7 yrs of being diabetic, I have yet to actually make any relationships with any other t1's and its quite sad! Its hard not being able to relate to anyone or have someone I can just joke about a test strip sticking to the bottem of my foot and they know how funny that is. So please dont hesitate in talkin to me, I may have some kind of profound knowledge, or better yet a good sarcastic comment or two to share!

Good Morning America, This Sucks

There is so much to diabetes that I feel sometimes its effects are over loked. On one of my many nights up, I wrote a lil something something...

That’s right, I said this sucks. I am not up due to partying or boozing, nor am I a bad contributor to this society. No, I'm none of the above. I am however no stranger to what night looks and feels like. To me, you see, the night has become my worst enemy. There was a time in my life were sleep was highly overrated. The notion of one lying aimlessly… Continue

Good Morning Ms. Jessica,

Long tjme no hear? Did second round of laser on Friday - 585 hits. Two more rounds to go over the next couple of months. You okay, you've been quite silent and it worries me bit. Linda who've you added as a new friend seems in need of some support. You're partner in crime. Mike

Hey girl how are you? Been reading your page, and relating. I'm not blind yet, but have had about as much laser as they can put in both of my eyes. It is a horrible disease, but most people look at you like nothing is wrong, so what you can't have sugar, big deal. If they only had this for 1 day they would change their tune.

Jess,

Woke up blind in one eye today - to much bleeding they don.t know why hopefully the body will absorb some of the blood so they they can laser in 6 or seven days. If not its surgery to clear up bleeding. Tryng not to have a pity party but alittle tough though, but I knew you'd understand. Mike

Good Morning Miss Jessica,

How does it hang today - I had to go to the doctor this Am I somehow tore something in my shoulder and can't sleep everytime I roll over on it. Of course another referral and a script for pain meds. I have a whole drawer of those I don't want to take another thing to put in my body with everything else. The sun came out and the day has turned beautiful. Hope you are feeling better. Mike

Jess,

I come from 3 generations of diabetics and my Dad died lst year and he was blind. I've been T1 for 35 years . Been lasered on both eyes a couple of times for bleeders. So far I've kept my sight, but they guarantee me nothing. I am trying to live every moment as my last. Truely I feel your pain because I don't have a avenue to share this scarey event with either. I will tell you it makes my priorities in life very different. Hang in there darling and if you need a friend drop me aline. Mike
