I LOVE tudiabetes!

Posted on December 15, 2008 at 10:19pm 7 Comments

I just wanted to say how grateful I am to have found such an amazing website.. I feel SO alone with this disease... and any time I log onto this site, it just makes my day/week/life/etc!! I cannot describe what relief I feel reading and answering to everyone because it's like OMG, I'm not alone! everyone else is going through the same things as me (even if they aren't around me at work/school/etc). This makes me want to keep going and get through the tough times.. Thanks everyone! God bless and… Continue

Jessica!

It's been quite a while since we've talked! I'm attempting to use Tudiabetes as a way to connect with peers with diabetes. I'm a senior at the University of South Florida and president of the school's chapter of "Students with Diabetes." We're hosting a national conference June 1st - 3rd in Tampa and want to bring in as many Type I diabetics (18 - 30yrs) as possible from across the country!

The conference costs $55 dollars total, which covers housing, food, & activities like Busch Gardens. It should be a lot of fun (we did something like this last year and it was great-- like a very condensed diabetes summer camp)! Please let me know if you are interested in any of this.. I'm easy to get in touch with.

You can also visit the SWD website for more information:
www.studentswithdiabetes.com

It would be really nice to finally meet you, so I hope you can find a way to cross the country for a weekend!

I always advocate pump over MID and with insurance now covering cgm I would says as long ans expense is not an issue go for it. I started using CGM at teh very beginning and do no want tro ever have to fo with out.

Issues: CGM's have a lot of alarms, can wake you more than you want (but better than the excursions that would wake or not wake you) and if you rely on cgm rather than finger sticks you can find the CGM wildly inaccurate say 150 pts off. The amount of data is amazing but little overwhelming. The $900 transmitter needs replaceement at 6-9 months and trouble shooting if it is transmitter or sensor can have a lag time

Tricks: the sensors can be used for greater than 3 days when they automatically shut down. (sites get raw/can build scar tissue doing this so you have to decide if worth it to you) I have gone 6-9 days pn same sensors - you simply tell the pump have new sensor after they shut down and it will recalibrate (says will take 2 hours like standard start up but usually asks for calibration in less than 5 minutes as already active.

Happy to answer more specific questions if I raised more than I answered!
Best Amber
