Stuart, The CGM is approved by the FDA and ADA. You know how difficult it is to get approval from the FDA. They approved the CGM because it has evolved into an accurate enough toy to satisfy them. The fact that it must be calibrated twice per day ...

Thanks Jacky, I never heard this about Costco. I do get my non diabetic prescription drugs there. Always generic and cheaper. My primary doc. knows I insist on this and, so far, all generic hasn't caused any problems. I'm on Medicare and so I have...

The purpose of the CGM is not to eliminate blood tests. Each generation of new CGM's has vast improvements over the CGM it replaced. I wonder if your aware of some or any of these. As I recall, you test once per day unless you are feeling so fedu...

Well..., first of all I have been really fortunate with the lack of complcations (o) during my diabetic life. I could be bitter and miserable if I had suffered some of the complcation shit people seem to enjoy warning me about. No question about t...

Accepted way of life would have been a better choice of words on my off the cuff remark. I was confusing, "routine", for one's ability to become extremely adaptable in accepting a situation, even when they hate the situation. Example: On rare occa...

I get only my 2 insulins from Costco. The rest all comes from a distributer. Insurance works either way. It is cheaper at Costco anyway. Don't know if you have Costco in NC.

Been diabetic since 1953. I have been extremely fortunate according to my Endo. and the Dr's. at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. By this I'm referring to the fact that so far I have had no complcations. I take care of my sugar but even this is c...

Jim ...you would use the same insulin that use now as in the pump.

Once your settings are set in the pump you do not have to think much after that.

Your pump can be a as basic as giving yourself a shot or you can design it to be as personal as you are.

I have been a diabetic for 36 yrs and started the pump 4 yrs ago. I never thought much about taking shots and only after 30 yrs did I start to concider it. It was much to concider as changing this old dog new tricks is not easy.
I use to wake up low or high every morning and I was just so tired of waking up tired! All worth it.

Hi Jim! I was just about to send you the same link that Karen sent below. You can find lots of useful info there, including a JDRF study showing the usefulness of CGMS. Hope that it works out!!!

Diabetes Health online magazine published this sample letter you can use for CGM coverage. Perhaps something in the article will be of use to you!

I am not familiar with any studies, but I bet Gina Capone is. She's the person who led the charge on this year's CGMS anti-denial campaign. I believe I sent you the websites pertaining to her cause. I know they list some studies there. I just don't follow technical research news like that. You can also find her page on TuDiabetes by searching on our Members page. Sorry I can't be of more help on that point.

I use omnipoad and was told by the company that medicarewill not approve it asan insulin pump for some unknown reason. It is wireless, but does everything a pump does. have you had any experience with this or other irrational decisions made by medicare?
