About who I am...

Hey everyone. I'm Joanne - you probably know that already. I found this site when I was at Google, searching for some more information on the 'omnipod.'

I was diagnosed with diabetes in June of 98. I've accepted having the disease. Only sometimes I feel alone and depressed. Its funny how so many people have diabetes in the world, yet those who are not affected by it, know very little about it. At least thats how it seems with the people I know. They make assumptions and really know very little about the disease. It really makes me mad...

In December, I'll be going back to school for cosmetology. Its always been the diabetes and me. I've told people about it and my friends and family members are supportive and they understand it. One thing I've realized is that I want to live. I never ever want my diabetes to hold me back from anything. Its a new realization, we'll see how it goes.

different blood sugar readings on different fingers??

I use the OneTouch Ultra Link meter that was given to me by Medtronic.

The other day I tested my blood sugar on my middle finger. The result was 300. I decided to re-test because I know my body and I certainly didnt feel that high, so I retested on the same hand, but using my ring finger and the result came out as 244.
It wasnt like I waited an hour to do the second test, it was a matter of minutes. Why was there such a difference? This isn't the first time this has happened eithe… Continue

Careers and diabetes

Hey guys,
So these last few months, I've had a lot on my mind. In December I will be going back to school for cosmetology. I am very excited to start, but scared. I am soooo scared of how my diabetes will interfere with school. I think about it constantly. I am not so worried so much about the first few months, I'll be learning to cut hair on just a dummy, but what am I going to do once I know how to cut real people's hair and I go low?

I've told myself so many times that I AM LIVING MY LIFE. N… Continue

Refridgerating Insulin Question...

Hey guys,
So I was just wondering, for those who are on the pump, when you take a fresh vial of insulin out of the fridge to be used, do you re-refrigerate it?

The reason I ask is because I dont, and I was just wondering if I'm doing something wrong... any ideas?

pump and relationships?

Hey everyone,
So my diabetes is treating me nicely. My last AIC was 6.7%. Over the last few days, I've been thinking about my relationships. I'm a little afraid to get into a serious relationship because of the whole pump / diabetes thing. For the last 10 years, my life has centered completely around my diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was 12 and now I'm 22... I'm ready to get into a relationship, I think, but for the last 10 years, its just been me and the diabetes. How can I introduce a strang… Continue
