Diabetes doubles your risk of Alzheimers !!!

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 1:55pm 5 Comments

Just read this article in a CNN link. Another good reason to keep your sugar in control.

( -- People with diabetes are at increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke at an early age, but that's not the only worry. Diabetes appears to dramatically increase a person's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia later in life, according to a new study conducted in Japan.

In the study, which included more than 1,000 men and women over age 60,… Continue

Confusing new Labs

Posted on March 10, 2010 at 10:33pm 1 Comment

Well the results came back and I am confused. My sugars have been eratic due to cortisone shots and going off my meds for a colonoscopy. My FBS was 143 and that was actually one of the better ones lately. Yet My A1C went from 5.9 ---> 6.0 . I expected to see a jump to maybe 6.5 or higher. How can my sugars be running higher all the time and my A1C barely budge ????

My TC was 170 but my LDL was 101 & HDL was 50, so I'm sure next week…

Need some computer guidance

Posted on August 27, 2009 at 8:42pm 3 Comments

It's been a frustrating night. I have computer issues and can't figure them out. My picture slideshow and my music player all of a sudden decided to disappear leaving a white box with a tiny logo in the top corner. Others I have talked to can still see my pics and the music player but i can no longer. I don't know what the problem is.

Tried reinstalling the music player and that didn't help. Then I deleted thins I didn't mean to and am struggling to get it back. I'm afraid to mess with the… Continue

Kaylee dressed to watch Penn State in the Rose Bowl Game

Kaylee, our 5 yr. old Siamese cat passed on to Cat heaven after a horribly torturous week. She fell ill last Wednesday night and had exploratory surgery on Saturday. They removed some tumors from her pancreas.

( I am beginning to hate the pancreas ) They inserted a peg tube for feeding purposes. She was so week but we brought her home Tuesday… Continue

Joanne-Thanks for your message. I am still progressing slowly. It is almost a year since I was hospitalized. Getting older is no fun, but I don't like the alternative either. We are still waiting to hear about an apt., but are continuing to get rid of many things we no longer need. My daughter is coming in for a few days in a couple of weeks to see if she wants anything for her house. Haven't seen her since last July. Congrats on your son's PhD. That is certainly an accomplishment. Hope Joe finds something soon. It must be frustrating for him. Glad to see that Spring is finally here. It's nice to see the crocuses, finally. Hope you stay
well as I hope to be. Susan

I really liked your pictures. My goodness the kids are getting big. Samantha was just a baby when I met you. If you need cash-your whole family could do modeling. You are a very handsome bunch. Ellen

Hi Joanne,

Thank you for writing. Can you please tell me about your experience with the gall bladder thing? I was in the hospital seven days but they gave me medication that stopped the symptoms. I am supposed to get a nuclear test and see my primary care. I don't know what to expect. They damaged my ducts in the gall bladder when they did my liver operation. I have to get a nuclear test. I don't see the doctor until Tuesday. My symptoms are coming back.
How have you been? Are you still working two jobs? I hope things are going well with everyone. You have such a beautiful family. The kids are getting big. Have a nice weekend. Here it is warm but overcast. The birds are back singing away. Ellen

Hello Joanne. Thanks for the nice card. It cheered me up. I have been having insomnia again. It comes and goes. Last night I went to bed at 11 and slept until 8:30. All my doctor's re[prts have been good so I am lucky. Russ will be 88 this week. Tom..they broke into his condo looking for drugs. All they would find there would be Tylenol but they ruined his all over the place. Last 2 days goorgeous but before that we got 3 1/2 inches of rain. BG106. Hope you are doing well. Do not get overtired. I am praying hard that something GOOD turns up for Joe. Take good care. My best to Joe. HUGS,Reed

Joanne-Glad to hear from you. This winter has been just too long, cold and snowy. I am coming along, going to PT several times a week to improve my walking and balance. Jim and I have decided to downsize from our house and move to a retirement community. After this harsh winter he is tired of dealing with the snow and the house is too big for me to handle. We have lived here for 44 years, so cleaning it out is really a big job. We will be moving to a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom apt. When an apt becomes available they will let us know. I hope you are feeling well
these days. Your G-babies are so cute and getting big.
Waiting for Spring ! Cat

Good Morning,Joanne. How are things with you? I hope well. I know you are busy. Did Pete get moved? Are you still getting snow? It was 81 here yesterday. Today rain and 54. The new sleeping pill is working. I only take a half for 7 days then go on full tablet. I seem to be in a much better mood when I sleep. How is Joe? Anything on the horizon for him? He is one of my intentions I pray for every day. BG108. How many jobs you working? Do not get over tired. Take good care. My best to Joe. HUGS,Reed

Hi Joanne, how are you doing? new grandchild, wow, YAY! I just love looking at your pictures btw. I was just thinking about you as I read this discussion

and I was wondering if, as a trained medical professional, you'd like to add your $.02 - scary stories of PWDs in the hospital.
