Diabetes doubles your risk of Alzheimers !!!

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 1:55pm 5 Comments

Just read this article in a CNN link. Another good reason to keep your sugar in control.

(Health.com) -- People with diabetes are at increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke at an early age, but that's not the only worry. Diabetes appears to dramatically increase a person's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia later in life, according to a new study conducted in Japan.

In the study, which included more than 1,000 men and women over age 60,… Continue

Confusing new Labs

Posted on March 10, 2010 at 10:33pm 1 Comment

Well the results came back and I am confused. My sugars have been eratic due to cortisone shots and going off my meds for a colonoscopy. My FBS was 143 and that was actually one of the better ones lately. Yet My A1C went from 5.9 ---> 6.0 . I expected to see a jump to maybe 6.5 or higher. How can my sugars be running higher all the time and my A1C barely budge ????

My TC was 170 but my LDL was 101 & HDL was 50, so I'm sure next week…

Need some computer guidance

Posted on August 27, 2009 at 8:42pm 3 Comments

It's been a frustrating night. I have computer issues and can't figure them out. My picture slideshow and my music player all of a sudden decided to disappear leaving a white box with a tiny logo in the top corner. Others I have talked to can still see my pics and the music player but i can no longer. I don't know what the problem is.

Tried reinstalling the music player and that didn't help. Then I deleted thins I didn't mean to and am struggling to get it back. I'm afraid to mess with the… Continue

Kaylee dressed to watch Penn State in the Rose Bowl Game

Kaylee, our 5 yr. old Siamese cat passed on to Cat heaven after a horribly torturous week. She fell ill last Wednesday night and had exploratory surgery on Saturday. They removed some tumors from her pancreas.

( I am beginning to hate the pancreas ) They inserted a peg tube for feeding purposes. She was so week but we brought her home Tuesday… Continue

Joanne- I wasn't able to get back to you, our computer was ill over the weekend. Actually, our mouse died. By the time we found out what was wrong, it was Tues. I got really behind in email and TuD responses. Sorry you won't be able to join us on the 10th of June in Philly. Maybe we can meet up some other time. Soon you will be busier with your new g-daughter. I am sure you will visit her whenever you can. Hope your operation was successful and you will have a quick recovery. Take care. Cat

Hello Joanne. I have taken a little breather. Beryl hit about 8 last night with pounding wins and rains. It slammed my house and windows but no damage. Rained off and on today we expect more tonight. Thank God Russ is seeing the doctor tomorrow. He needs answers why is he purple from the knees way up his back. We know it is COUMADAN but it never acted like that before. I was thinking 68 years ago I was in the Navy. All the parades and concerts were wiped out due to Beryl. I am doing ok. Tom has been here 5 days. It looks like Russ will have to depend on that walker. How are things with you? I hope yu are feeling better and having good BG readings. Take good care. I care. HUGS,Reed

Hi Jonanne, I saw that sweet picture of Samantha in her pretty dress with her brand new pink car. Today I pulled out some of the old pictures of Jesse. He hates when I do that and catches me pouring over the old days, always embarrassed about it. He hates having his picture taken now too, always running the other way when therre is a camera out. I found this one when we were at Fort Bragg NC of him in his red car that he got for Christmas and I thought that you might enjoy it. On the table behind was a neat toy. It was a little dump truck full of marbles that traveled around and it automatically dumped the marbles in different spots on the "road" as it went along.
Here our weather is nice and sunny, a little overcast but very hot and humid. Looks like partly cloudy for us until after Monday and then we are going to get some T-Storms. Hope your gardening went well today!

Good morning Joanne ♥
I'm staying home today. I woke up with the start of a migraine headache, mostly due to the heat and humidity...but I'm sure the stress of the report cards has a role to play there (102 of them)! Though it gets loud here with the little ones, at least we have AC....and a bed! With my classroom like an oven at times, I would end up feeling like the bottom of the birdcage! Our kids and theirs are still here, but not for much longer. Our son Timothy and his wife are interested in a quaint house not too far from ours, likely moving in the end of June. Our daughter Danielle, after much searching, has filled an application for a lovely apartment in a quiet area, a stone throw from the main library, the theatre, the art gallery and the library. So you see, we may soon be back to our boring quiet lives after all ;)
So excited for you, about to be grandma to another sweetie! Timothy and Steph are planning for a third and last child once they've settled into their house....and hoping for a little girl.
Hugs....linda

Hey!! Just want to explain (splain, as Ricky Racardo would have said!)that the reason why I was off for a bit, had to do with the computer getting a virus...then intalling new security....and of course the can of worms that usually opens up!!!
You are looking absolutely FAB in your new pic!!!

Hello Joanne. Sorry for th neglect but beinf Florence Nightingale takes up my time. New trick..instead instead of yelling Reed. Russ now uses his cell phone and calls me on the land line. COUMADAN test was 5.2 should be 2. He is tested all the time. They think the antibiotocs raised it and those big blotches on his hip and leg were from the COUMADAN..he sees doctor tomorrow. Tom here for 5 days. A big help to me. This afternoon we are going to the medical supply place to get something to help him get out of bed .My BG 102. How are you doing? How is your garden? Rain all around but none in St. Aug...so dry. I hope all is well with you. Take good care. HUGS,Reed
THE AGING PROCESS WOULD SURE SLOW DOWN IF IT HAD TO WORK ITS WAY THROUGH CONGRESS.

Joanne- Thanks for the update on your very busy life. You seem to do enough for at least 2 people. That is great as long as you feel good. I am OK, just taking a day at a time. I started a chair yoga class a couple of weeks ago. It is given at a local hosp. I like it and it keeps me limber. Do you think you will make it to the Meet-up in Philly on June 10 ? I can understand if you can't with your busy schedule. My husband & I are planning to go. Wow, only 6 weeks until the new baby arrives, I am sure it will go quickly. Take care and stay well. Cat
