Hi Jodil, I am so sorry to hear about the recent loss of your mom. I know how you feel when you say you feel alone in dealing with your son's diabetes. I feel the same and have gained strength from being on this site. It is sad that people even close friends that are not touched by diabetes just can't relate. I hope you find support and encouragement here, don't hesitate to speak to me directly about your sons experience if you would like. Jacob is 13 and was diag. at 10, he is doing well but there is always worry and concern as you know. hang in there! amy

Glad to be friend of yours. I've been at this for a long time. July 6, 1958 at the ripe young age of 3. My daughter was Dx'd May 4, 2006 at the age of 23. She was in her senior finals at UCONN (go HUSKIES). Had to throw that in.

Hi Jodi! My name is Kellee (spelled different, but pronounced kelly).
I am glad you are going on minimed. I thing you made a good choice. You know, Mary was on the Omnipod for 3 years and I did not want to even think about another pump. The only reason we went on the pump was because the Omnipod offered no tubing. So, when her insurance switched and we found out they did not cover Omnipod I was very scared. Since we switched it is altogether different. The tubing which I feared was a false fear. The pump is more presise. Her sugars are the best they have ever been. (Her last A1C was high at 9.1 so in December I'll let you know what her reading was.)
I especially like the fact the I can get a 6mm cannula for her little body! I am so excited about that. Omnipod only offered the once size.
Feel free to contact me any time. I especially am glad for YOU going on the pump. I hope it alleviates a lot of symptoms and long term complications in the long run. God Bless! Kellee

Thanks for that info. I fear this is what Obama care is going to be doing for us.
Yet, something has to be done in our country with the rising cost of medical care.
Mary gets everything for free. EVERYTHING! Because of her condition and her age.
My husband's insurance only covers Him and Myself and is litmited to Dr. visits and hospitalization. No meds are covered.

I wouldn't fear too much about the Omnipod, as long as your doctor is there to help.
Their customer support would probably be there to help too.
For me they were great until my insurance got switched, then they sort of dropped me like a hot potato.

The biggest difference between the 2 pumps are the way they calculate bolus' and correction doses. I am still trying to get used to the minimed, but it's a change for the better.
Whatever you choose, you will be much better off than getting shots, as long as you have good training and you can figure out your basal rates and stay on top of them, because they do change from time to time (which causes lots of lost sleep :) ) .

Can't wait to hear what you pick and don't forget, you've got a great group of folks on here that are willing to help!!!

Jodil! How are you doing????
Have you decided on a pump yet? I was just curious.
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
I was curious as to what's its' like in Canada for diabetics as far as insurance coverage.
Do you have to pay out a lot for your diabetic expenses?
