have to hang up my shoes !

I went to my GP because knee pain and swelling . He sent me to a Ortho Surgeon . The surgeon said I need a knee replacement . I asked him when would I be able to run again ? His response was never ,"time to hang up the running shoes." I had little problem with having surgery but when he told me I would never run again was hard . It was like part of me died . It felt like a spear was thrust into the heart of my soul . Running has always be a big part of my life .Running isn't something I do…See More

Dealing with the flu Season :Part 2

Posted on November 26, 2008 at 7:30am 2 Comments

So what if your the one that can take the flu shot or you are exposed to a different strain of flu. In 03-04 flu season ,The CDC was concerned that the flu vacinine would be ineffective due to the number of strains of flu that year. In 07-08 season there was a shortage of vaccine due to contamination. Or even worse what if we are hit with a Pandemic flu which could leave thousands dead before a vaccine could be put in place .

The pandemic flu of 1918,also know as the Spanish flu, had… Continue

Dealing with the flu Season; Part 1

No one enjoys getting the flu. Most Healthy people it is a few days in bed. For the diabetic the flu is more than aches and pains. We are not at a greater risk of getting the flu than the general population but for us the risks are greater.(although , many of us work in jobs that give us a higher exsposer rate;hospitals, nursing homes, schools and ect.) If we get the flu it is likely to be more severe and last longer. We are more at a risk of complications from the flu. The flu can exacerbate… Continue

Wonderful ,Wonderful High Fructose Corn Syrup-- What Do They Say About It. (But don't pay attention to the Man behind the curtain)

HFCS industry is spending 30 million dollars to convince us that their product is wonderful. When we start to look at the health issues ,they want to say ;don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain! Maybe it's time to look behind the curtain,

Before becomming a diabetic ,I believe it was no different than sucrose other than percentage of fructose to glucose. After becomming a diabetic, I started to examine everything I ate. HFCS was one of things that I took a close look… Continue

Hi Joe! Thanks for your concern. It is a real tragedy. The spill was in a small village and we live in the capital city. So it did not directly affect us, but the effects on the environment and water supply are still not clear.

Hope that you are well!

you know, I was going to do that, but I voted for someone else. I think I'm going to tell Manny we should make a special category for Sandy, like our Guardian Angel. I've been thinking so strongly of her lately. yesterday I was in tears missing her so. I have a personal email I am going to share with everyone soon that she sent me days before her death. I think there are some incredibly amazing people here, but she was in a whole different league.

I saw your comment about Sandy helping you accept the changes diabetes threw your way. That was the one thing that was so wonderful about her - she did the same thing for me. I had to make some changes a couple of years ago, and I was angry and depressed about it. She swooped in, and picked me up, and dried my tears, and gave me so much unconditional love, I knew I could do it! I miss her so much. In her honor, I try to help others as she helped me.
