Dealing with the flu Season :Part 2

So what if your the one that can take the flu shot or you are exposed to a different strain of flu. In 03-04 flu season ,The CDC was concerned that the flu vacinine would be ineffective due to the number of strains of flu that year. In 07-08 season there was a shortage of vaccine due to contamination. Or even worse what if we are hit with a Pandemic flu which could leave thousands dead before a vaccine could be put in place .

The pandemic flu of 1918,also know as the Spanish flu, had it's first… Continue

Dealing with the flu Season; Part 1

No one enjoys getting the flu. Most Healthy people it is a few days in bed. For the diabetic the flu is more than aches and pains. We are not at a greater risk of getting the flu than the general population but for us the risks are greater.(although , many of us work in jobs that give us a higher exsposer rate;hospitals, nursing homes, schools and ect.) If we get the flu it is likely to be more severe and last longer. We are more at a risk of complications from the flu. The flu can exacerbate our… Continue

Wonderful ,Wonderful High Fructose Corn Syrup-- What Do They Say About It. (But don't pay attention to the Man behind the curtain)

HFCS industry is spending 30 million dollars to convince us that their product is wonderful. When we start to look at the health issues ,they want to say ;don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain! Maybe it's time to look behind the curtain,

Before becomming a diabetic ,I believe it was no different than sucrose other than percentage of fructose to glucose. After becomming a diabetic, I started to examine everything I ate. HFCS was one of things that I took a close look at.

Here's w… Continue

I saw your comment about Sandy helping you accept the changes diabetes threw your way. That was the one thing that was so wonderful about her - she did the same thing for me. I had to make some changes a couple of years ago, and I was angry and depressed about it. She swooped in, and picked me up, and dried my tears, and gave me so much unconditional love, I knew I could do it! I miss her so much. In her honor, I try to help others as she helped me.

hi joe. sorry i haven't been on in awhile. just needed a break. i have been crocheting up a strom. i made a tablecloth for my son and new daughter-in-law for christmas. now i'm quilting (and i say that loosely, because i'm no where near as good as marie) a bedspread for my grandson, ryan. i'll be putting that pic up soon. i will wanat some feed back. lol. i heard that you had a problem with your toe. was it infected or gout? or both? my dad suffers from gout. it doesn't stop him from eating things he shouldn't though. my mom had the other kind of gout. it was caused by an excess of medicines in her sysem. they had to cut everything she was on and add things back slowly so they could find out what was causing the biggest problems. have you gotten your phone back yet? i though about calling and seeing if you had but was thinking that the number might be different if you had gotten a new one. i've been thinking about everyone a lot lately. especially sandy. i know she would be so happy over my weight loss. i still have a long way to go but i'm getting there. there will be some surgery when i'm done. well sweety, take care and say hello to your wife and daughter for me. i'm off to tackle that quilt again.

Cherries-they were like the sweeet cherry Blossoms from Saturday aft. matinees at the movies., but without the sticky gooey insides. My favouite is the ginger. Carol

A virtual rap across the knuckles for tempting me with the chili/chocolate, soooooooo good!! I wanted to eat the whole thing. I suppose if I was strong enough I could have refused!!! I was reluctant to try, the combo seemed so odd, nor am I fond of hot stuff. But... I seem to remember reading some where that the chili/chocolate was part of the Aztec culture. And now a friend has told me that Lindt has a warehouse outlet at the far end of the Twin Cities. Oh dear. Fortunately I rarely venture to that end of town. Have you tried the orange/chocolate variety yet? Delicious as well Being here in the Great Lakes basin we're finally getting summer weather at last. Enjoy the holiday weekend. Carol
