6 friggin oh

Posted on March 15, 2010 at 11:41pm 3 Comments

after more than a year at 6.5 and 6.6 a1c's my previous a1c testing skipped up a little to 6.8 not the end of the world but trending higher. the sitdown with my endo after the previous test was a friendly smack in the face that if i don't take care of my sugars I would graduate up to insulin, which is definitely not the ned of the world but something i would like to put off for as long as I can. so I began testing and tracking what i ate and drank and focused on my typically worst readings…

I asked for a DIET coke

Posted on January 11, 2010 at 7:49am 18 Comments

after one of the best weeks in a very long time controlling my sugars. We took the kids to the movies last night. I ended up taking the boy to see Invictus (which was a decent movie by the way). We stopped at the concession stand and spent $17 for a bottle of water, a gatorade, a pack of gummi bears for my wife and daughter going to another movie and a large diet coke for myself. we settled into our seats and watched the coming atttractions and as the movie started I took a long pull of my… Continue

taken to the woodshed last night

Posted on December 22, 2009 at 8:43am 5 Comments

my end of the year doc visit was last night and I'm still stinging from the spaking I got. I had been running around 6.5 for about 18 months until this time around I jumped to 7.0 neither the doc or myself were pleased with this. seems I took too much of a vacation from working out when my race season ended in sept/oct. I fully expected to start taking insulin after seeing my A1C results but was able to show the doctor that now that I am running/cycling on a consistent basis my 14 day average… Continue

Hi Joe!

Until now Philly has not had a local Insulindependence chapter. I'm currently working with the home office to get us up and running here and hope to have monthly gatherings up and running (pun intended!) within 60 days. If you are interested send me your contact info to smeo AT me.com and I will keep you in the loop!

I admire you for signing up now. I have to get going or I will be truly sorry come June. Meanwhile, the weather for me should not be a factor since I train indoors. Have a bike set up downstairs in the basement. No excuses, just have to begin to begin.

How did you know I didn't? A myriad of reasons, none of which feel good, but I hope to join the Team Wild camp group in June, and they have a Tri as part of the whole experience. But I better get off my butt, and fast. I hope to start within the week, and thanks for asking. How about you? Any races in your horizon?

I highly recommend it. This year will be my third year and my first year doing the long course. It's the best triathlon I have ever been to. (And the hardest)
