New A1c since I started MDI January 9th

My new A1c is 6.3, down from 7.3 since I began MDI January 9th. My new endo is very open to me restricting my carbs. As it turns out his oldest daughter was diagnosed with Type I at 21 months and initially they were told to give her 90g carbs for each meal, which caused tremendous spikes and lows. He has a personal interest in this disease and told me that he loves patients like me..."creative about their treatment." He is talking about the fact that I went to MDI on my own with the help of some… Continue

I've come a long way baby...

Imagine being a complete needle phobe. One of my earliest memories (I was probably 4 or 5) was being at the doctor's office and being brought to the back because I was sick with yet another ear infection, and as I am walking down the hall, I can see into the open doors of the other exam rooms. Suddenly I see my favorite nurse, Nurse Charity (seriously that was her name...she had other sisters, named Faith, Hope and Joy) jabbing a needle into some kid's arm. I freaked out. Since that day,… Continue

New A1c results

My results are in. 6.6 which is the lowest A1c I've ever had. And, this with many high PP numbers. This new doctor keeps telling me he doesn't care about my PP numbers, he wants my A1c to be a certain number. He says this is high. He wants it consistently in the 5.5 range. I'm thinking that in order to get lower, I will HAVE to watch my PP numbers, no?

At least he is much more aggressive than my first endo who told me that my goal was 7.0. Good news is that the damage previously showin

Today, I am a mess....

Just when I think I have things under control...I go and do something extremely mindless. First, I left my meter at work yesterday, so no testing from yesterday after lunch until I got in to work this morning. Then, this morning, I took the Byetta and ate and completely forgot to take my oral meds and the regular insulin. I have a meeting directly after work this evening so I won't be home until around 10:00 pm which means no regular insulin and no Byetta before dinner. I'll definitely have to w… Continue

Perfect day so far...

Can I just say that today I am having a perfect day?!!!

For the first time since diagnosis, my fasting blood sugar was in the double digits...99, but hey, still double digits. My sticks so far today:

Fasting: 99

After Breakfast: 113

Before Lunch: 87

After Lunch: 116

I am actually having the best day I've ever had and I only shot 7 units of Novalin R last night because I was out of Lantus. I actually haven't had to use the Novalin since the second day

Jolie-
Thank you for checking in on me! I am doing well. Surprisingly well. Jan. 1 at 1:00am will be 2 weeks. I can't believe it! I still think about it (obviously). LIke this morning. I got to work, parked the car, and the first thing I thought of as I got out was "gee, I'd love a cigarette". But, I can now dismiss those thoughts and move on.

Happy New Year and thanks for thinking about me!

How did you do it? George did the patch. My husband did the patch. I've tried the patch 3 times and it made my arm hurt, so I'm a little scared to do that, but not sure i have the strength to go cold-turkey. Let me know what worked for you. and CONGRATS!

Hi, Jolie,
The best web page I have found is sproutpeople.com which gives lots of info on how to sprout. Some of the things I have found out by myself by experimenting. I use whole oats, wheat, barley and rye and soak them overnight, then let them sprout for about 16-24 hours. I use about 1/4 cup dry. I sprout them in an automatic sprout machine, but you can just put them on a plate and spray/rinse them every 8 hours or so. You eat them when they just have a tiny sprout, don't wait for leaves. I add nuts- roasted hazlenuts and sliced almonds and a few raisins and eat it for breakfast with plain yogurt or milk. Chewy and good and doesn't raise my BG much. I exercise after breakfast and take regular insulin before hand. I do the regular sprouts like alfalfa and have been enjoying peas and lentils as sprouts as a salad for lunch. I'm a first grade teacher and don't do insulin at school so need a low carb meal. Another great thing to sprout it peanuts. You just need to soak them and they taste completely different. So do sunflower seeds. I am excited to be able to eat something low carb and nutritous other than eggs, meat and cheese.
