Last night was terrible.
I have been on the CGM to sort of offset the 20 blood sugars I usually took a day to ensure I was within range. My background retinopathy is at such a point that it seems any deviations above 240 or below 60 cause issues with ischemic spots forming in my eyes.
I am so burned out. Certainly something we have all experienced.
Last night I barely slept. I got up with my Dex beeping at every low and high...I rebounded for 8 hours...only with my fear…

So I had a theory about a new subtheshold laser therapy they are using for DME as a potential for prevention at a severe NPDR stage: Yeah I know... translation please?... laser that does not cause collateral damage because it works on faster and lower wavelengths which does not cause the underlying Photoreceptors to be destroyed to save central vision by creating oxygen need balance. So I sent this question out to a few key people in the field. Got this response... though not the one I was…

Jag1 said… Hot button for me too. Advice from recent onset T2 about how easy this is to control ("just follow Bernstein") make me crazy.
Jag1 said… Ran across your comments on the A1c chart. I've had T1 for 38 years and couldn't agree more.
Marie B said… hi Josh, how are you doing? I wanted to let you know Dr Wong will be live with us on Friday

If you can't be here with us, you can comment or ask a question on the event page, and, of course, the interview will be recorded so you can watch it later. hope you are well.

I just wanted to stop by to see if you've done your Big Blue Test Today. Dont' forget that every time you log a Big Blue Test $5 is donated to diabetes charities that are providing life-saving supplies and services.
If you haven't yet, go log a Big Blue Test at http://www.bigbluetest.org/. If you have, do another!

SF Pete said… Hi, Josh -- I disappeared for a bit. But I'm working my way back into to mix. If SteveD suggested we connect, it must be a good idea. I'm sorry for the millenium of delay before responding. It's kind of a long story that you would probably not find at all interesting. I look forward to making your acquiantance now that I've resurfaced. :)
ShelbyH said… Hi Josh,
Sorry I missed you a couple weeks ago. It was crazy timing you had; I was seeing friends from Diabetic Camp that I had not seen in 20 years! It was super awesome to spend time with them again.
I am catching up now on things. So, I just read your update from earlier this month. DAMN! I am so sorry and bummed that you are going through this and have to deal with such heavy feelings. Sometimes things get a little bit worse before they get better. Perhaps, that is all this is. Hopefully, this is a minor setback, but since you are under better control, things will begin to improve. Good blood sugars can cause improvement. I hope that your new better sugars will cause your eyes to heal, it can happen!
I think that since you are so communicative about it all, it totally helps. Instead of bottling it all up. This illness is a nightmare, honestly. I am trying to go gluten free. But, we all know that changing food means changing everything. I had a bad low in front of a friend and I was pissed about it. It's not like we can just be nonchalant about anything. It's fracking annoying.
Thanks for keeping in touch. Hope things have mellowed for you since earlier this month.

Emily Coles said… Nice to finally meet you, too :) Sounds like you're taking amazing care of yourself! I aspire... I make many great choices and some not-so-great choices (I'd put my choice to eat ice cream for dinner last night in this category. Big surprise: that didn't work out so great). Cudos to you for all the exercise and healthy eating!
