While traveling internationally we were concerned with staying connected to Nikki who was with us but staying with a group of girls and our sons who also have diabetes and were in the states. We tried several different international phones and packages and the one thing that worked for us that kept us connected so we could monitor Nikki's diabetes and stay connected with our sons was totally FREE, check out this really cool App and this week's diabetes tidbitHope it helps you when traveling and…See More

I love traveling with drink boxes but there are limitations on what you can bring with you and I was told they can explode in the airplane cabin. So i was given another suggestion along with suggestions on getting my daughter through security smoothly. Check out this weeks diabetes tidbit…See More

Hi Julie, Jillian is 8 years old and was diagnosed Dec. 08. She has a girlfriend in her class that lives in our neighborhood. She has been invited over the her house and her mom Laurie just said to let her know whatever she needs to know to help Jillian while she was over at their house. Luckily Jill is pretty self sufficient with the diabetes. She always calls me before she has a snack at their home and tells me how many carbs she will be eating. She is on the pump like your daughter is and that makes it so much easier. It is hard when you think that your daughter may be missing out on Anything because of diabetes. I think that it would be a good idea to have a combo friends and moms play date so that the parents could see that it's not the plague and it can be handled pretty easily. good luck leah

Yes, I'm going home for the holidays and I'm so excited! I haven't been back to Oregon since I moved out here in June. I am working at a PR agency just outside of NYC (I was actually just in the city last night...). Where in NY do you live? We should definitely try to meet up some weekend next year.

Kids are just the greatest when it comes to a birthday and exp Christmas! I love seeing their eyes light up on Christmas! And even on Christmas Eve when we used to make cookies for "Santa". I guess from the way things are looking we might get that experaince again this Christmas, if my daughter and her hubby with the little 1 year old don't move before then and quite frankley it don't look like that will happen!

Hi everyone, i am so happy to be a part ot tudiabetes. Six years ago my 2 year old daughter was diagnoised with type 1 diabetes, heart breaking does not even describe the pain we were in! My husband and i fought hard at that time to get her on an insulin pump because we felt that it was the best way of gaining some type of control over this beast of an illness. Well we finally found a wonderful doctor who put Nikki on the insulin pump at the age of 3! We were so happy that she was finally being given this wonderful opportunity to try to control her out of control numbers. But we had a new problem, where to put this thing on a 3 year old! That's when we started creating t-shirts and looking for cute fun ways to wear an insulin pump! That night Pump Wear Inc. was created, a place that is for children and adults who want to find fun creative ways to wear an insulin pump.

Since creating Pump Wear Inc. www.pumpwearinc.com my 2 sons were also diagnosed at the ages of 13 and 11 the boys were diagnosed 4 months apart. Talk about having a house full of craziness, between blood sugar counts, infusion site changes, basals being adjusted it was a little crazy here for a while!

My wonderful children now Nikki age 10 (today's her birthday), Patrick age 15 and Adam age 19 are all pumping away and doing well. Still many crazy days but nothing like the begining.

Our company has grown to encompass a huge variety of items that we hope are helping others live with diabetes. Please know that our company is run from the heart and we do all we can to support the community.

We are even sponsoring a wonderful "Free" weekend for 18 lucky families that will be going to The Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne NY for a fun filled weekend Free the only cost to each family is for them to get themselves there.

This is something that we have worked long and hard on trying to provide, since we know how difficult it is to get time away to just relax especially with the cost of diabetes.

Thanks so much for welcoming me into the community.

Julie
