I think the Synthroid really affects your blood sugars and must be carefully monitored. I just had to lower my Synthroid - twice. My doctor said you need less after menopause. After the Synthroid change, I started getting more and more lows and n...

I began to be perimenopausal at 35 too and I've had hypothyroidsm since I was a teen. I am currently 50 and I still haven't gone into menopause (no periods for a year). I know that for me, everything began to go downhill in my 40s. I gained weight...

Introduction

I was diagnosed as a T1 (isn't that what they called the first generation of terminators?) on Mar 12 2007 during a random urine test while I was pregnant and was put on a super restrictive diet until I gave birth. The year anniversary of this post is a total coincidence:) I remember being really scared for myself and my baby and hoping my Dr.s nutritionist could help me (I already had an endo because I’m lucky enough to have another auto-immune disorder….Grave’s disease.) I was told to eat canne… Continue

Hi Julie, Good to hear from you. I had begun on pump (animas 2020) but have been continuing to have probs with sets so just returned back to injections. Idea is that i take some proper time off over xmas and either give it a real good go or forget idea completely, i work flat out usually so havent given the changeover the respect it needs perhaps.
How are you getting on? As a new diabetic must have felt shock at time you were pregnant finding out you were dibetic? What is graves disease, showing my ignorance as dont know too much about it? ps Real cute baby - hope the sleepless nights not affecting things! Chris

Hi Julie,

Welcome to the NRV!

I couldn't stand Dr. S. I went to him once & that was enough for me. He doesn't have a good reputation. I have a number of friends in the health care field & they also told me to avoid him. Dr. Farris is also not a good endo. I can't recall his name at the moment (Miranda? something like that), but there's supposed to be an excellent endo in Roanoke.

My endo is in NY. I'm from NYC, so I see him when I visit family.

Hi Julie,
I actually see Dr. Burris, but they are in the same practice. Do I take it from your comment that you are no longer in the RVA area?

Hey Julie, thank you so much for sharing that with me, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness! You know, I was a bit under the weather, wasn't eating much, and numbers have been good, so I haven't used my short-acting yet, tho fortunately my endo had no problem giving me a prescription. (Phew!)

Sounds like you have a really good endo... hope it was a good visit. And I hope you're enjoying what's left of summer!

Julie, thanks for your very helpful insights, I'm definitely going to ask for a short-acting prescription. Just also wanted to say you're not a weirdo for liking the meat substitutes, I'm totally into the Tofudogs that kinda look like big rubber erasers!
