I am shocked that NONE of you looked this up in the Transportation Security Administration's own memos! They say NOT to allow insulin, whether in a pump or spare insulin, to be screened by the x-ray machine! With repeated exposure, it can denature...

I agree with the applause being given the support staff at CoZmo and also wonder how long that will continue with the current climate. What about the Cleo 90 inserter? Is there anything else on the market that offers the ease and comfort in an ins...

Dave, the touch bolus botton allows users to deliver a pre-determined amount of insulin at the touch of a button situated so that it can easily be pressed without even removing the pump from, say, a pocket. Designed for discreet or quick bolusing....

Okay, I got my Cozmo in Aug '08, so I have some time to get ready for a change, but in the meantime,I am wondering about other non-US pumpers. I specifically went with Cozmo because they were the only company that agreed to support me overseas. I ...

Kristeen, thanks! Actually, I had everything I needed, but I was in too much of a hurry and getting frustrated. This morning I reloaded everything and it works! Now on to better management!!! (Ha-ha! Like that is going to happen overnight! Oh well...

I am also trying to come up with a way to download data from my Cozmo 1800 pump into a "log" that is useful both to me and to my doc (who does not have time to wade through a mountain of paper!). I have downloaded the CoPilot software but cannot g...

Well I worked in Shiga Prefecture when I was with Nova. I had no idea they shut down! Wow. Big news to me! Before that I went to a college in kyoto then I lived in Saitama Prefecture, just outside of Tokyo awhile later.
When I was in Saitama, I joined a diabetes group. They were so shocked to see a gaijin there! But it was interesting to meet Japanese kids with type 1. It was a great experience. One of my favourite artists is Japanese and he went blind from diabetes complications so when I was there, I managed to meet him.
So when you show kids your pump, do they know about tounyoubyou (diabetes)? I remember when I was there (a few years back now), a lot of kids didn't really know about type 1, only type 2.

Hey Renee,
I also spend quite a lot of time in Japan. What school are you teaching with? At one time, I was with No Vacation NOVA!
How's the diabetes management?

I often have International students stay with me from Japan. The most interesting one was one named Asaka from Osaka. She was a 72 year old artist who came to ASU in Tempe, AZ to study English as a 2nd language. We shared diet secrets for blood pressue control.I know she had a tough time here with the processed foods. It created a hard problem for her. But she managed fairly well. What do you do in Japan?? I just got to begin using the Minimed real time glucose sensor. I am finding it great. I am glad to get started with it. Thanks Patricia or Patty

hi Renee, As a new resident of Japan (moved here from Canada about a month ago) I'd like to exchange info with diabetics who live in Japan. Locating supplies, medical care, English-speaking support groups, etc. At this point I have more questions than answers but I'm learning my way around and would be happy to pass along what I know.

This site came to my attention when I was googling Japan and diabetes. TIA for your reply.

Hey Renee, thanks for the add.
Don't worry too much about whether or not a single A1C reading will be better. If getting the pump has made your life even a little easier, it was the right thing for you to do.

What Our Kids Are Thinking

I just read a post by Andreina, and it reminded me of when my daughter was young and I also worried that she would develop diabetes. There were some funny moments!

Gonna Be a Pumper!

Just found your site. New to blogging. Will be going to Boston to get a pump next month (July 07)!! Am excited, scared, wary, ignorant, ... I need help carbohydrate counting. I mean, it would be easy if I ate prepackaged meals that were all the same, but who does?! It is discouraging when I grab a handful of trail mix, or share an apple with my husband, or get served a bowl of soba, and realize that I have NO IDEA how many carbs I just ate! Will they even ALLOW me to get a pump? How does everyon… Continue
