I found one good reason that I am looking forward to a pump... Last evening I was doing my bedtime routine after a long day, and being run down with an on coming cold. I checked BG and I was at 578. Obviously very unusual, but I had indulged in so...

My endo gave me a fixed dose of "2 or 3" units of Apidra before meals. From everything I learned on here and from Using Insulin I knew that was inaccurate. I have been looking up carbs and then figuring out my insulin: carb ratio. I started with t...

Hi Gerry, I should have my Ping in a few weeks, just got clearance from my insurance company. I am going to have some out of pocket expenses. But I feel it will be money well spent. Just saw my Endo again yesterday and my A1c is 6.1...down from 6....

That's great news! I'm sure you'll love pumping, once you learn the basics (and it sounds like you're working on that). Have you received your Ping, yet? I found the Pumping Insulin book EXTREMELY helpful -- I used it to define/adjust basal rates....

Administrative Assistant for community college

I live in the same county that I was born & raised in, about 100 north of the Phoenix area. I currently work for the local community college after spending 10 yrs. in the veternarian field. I've been married for 8 years and have 2 kids, a son, Garrett (6) and daughter, Kaycee (2). I was diagnosed 9/08 (age:32) with diabetes. At first they said it was type 2, but would not confirm it. After having the GAD test done, my endo felt confident to class me as LADA. I first presented with symptoms of PU/PD, leg cramps & weight loss. I feel that I was on top of my symptoms and diagnosed quickly, as my fasting sugar where in the 250's. I am currently taking 14 units Lantus insulin and Novolog as needed for pre-meal. I am becoming more comfortable with my control, but always have my bad/good days/weeks.

I love the ping but I am biased as I never used another pump brand before this one. I had an Animas 2020 and then the Ping. All pumpers think their pump brand is best, haha! If you have an endocrinologist they may have someone in the office like a nurse or CDE that could answer all your questions about insurance and the different pumps.

How exciting that you are on the road to getting a pump! Hopefully your insurance company will let you choose which brand pump you want. Even if they don't let you choose, you will not regret getting a pump of any brand. It makes life more manageable once you get the hang of it!

Hi Karen...wow, I feel the exact same as you. I hate putting all these pills into my body I do start insulin on the 9th of March, Lantus I believe - the long lasting one. I'm sooooooooo nervous about the needles - I just can't imagine giving myself one...it really is not painful? Just dreading it but will be happy when they reduce my oral meds which have only brought me down to a fasting GC in the 11s. Sharon

Time for me to pump?!!?

I had an appointment with my Endo yesterday. I have been living with diabetes for only 6 months, was dx'd Type 1.5. I was on oral meds for only a few months, then Lantus, then NovoLog and now they say I am ready for a pump! I have spent a lot of time on this site and have snooped around quite a bit in the Pumping Our Insulin group...preparing myself for the next step. I am completely comfortable with the idea of pumping, my husband on the other hand isn't so sure....he is just uneducated on pump… Continue

What is she going to say...???

Next Wednesday is my appointment with the Endo...
I found out a few weeks ago, that Dr. Lola will be moving out of the area in July. I am only 6 mos. into crazy & confusing disease. I still don't know what in heck I am doing with my treatment...just flying by the seat of my pants. I have been less than complient these last 3 months, at times only testing once a day and just guessing at my insulin dose. I haven't kept a log since my last visit to her in Jan. I just hope that she is fine with… Continue
