About me

Hi, my name is Kate and I'm new to Diabetes as well as Blogs :-) I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself.

I currently live in NY, but my favorite city in the world is Paris which is why I choose this for the theme of my page. In 2001, my job led me to Paris for a 6 month assignment and I fell in love! Not only with the city, but I met my future husband there too!! My husband is from Germany and after dating long distance for 2 years we decided to get married. This was the easy part. Deciding which country to live in and who should move was the hard part. In the end we both had the best opportunities in the US and he moved to NY in 2003. Some day our plan is to go back to Europe. Both cultures have a lot to offer and we have family in both the US and Germany which can be challenging especailly during the holidays.

I recently turned 33 and am lucky to have a very loving and supportive husband as well as a beautiful daughter. Victoria is 17 months old now and is the joy of our lives. I want to do everything I can to stay healthy for the 2 of them.

I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, cooking when I have the time, going to the gym, or just watching a good moving on a Saturday night at home.

Ok...so now that you know a little more about me personally here's my story on diabetes. In 2006, I had gestational diabetes while I was pregnant with my daughter Victoria. Everyone told me it would go away after I delivered, and they were right...it did. However, less than 6 months later I started feeling symptoms again. At first I thought it was just because I was a new mom and was supposed to be exhausted but that wasn't the only reason. April 2006, I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes, but after a few more tests and doctor visits later I was told I was LADA Type 1 instead and put on insulin therapy. I've been doing injections since October 2007 and was pretty happy with this but I've also been having a lot of lows lately. In my last endo visit she suggested that I go on an insulin pump to stabalize things a bit. I'm sampling the omnipod now and while I'm not thrilled about the diabetes in the first place or going on a pump it's actually not bad.

I'm glad to live in a time where there are more innovations than ever before for this disease and technology now allows other great people out there all over the world to connect online. I'm looking forward to getting to know new people and learn from your experiences. I know I'll have many questions as I embark on this journey but I think I'm in good company.

hello, kate: would you kindly get the following info from
Lizzy731 & Lindy or Nicky (mom to Cooper) for me since I was not able to send message at children with diebetes
http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/
1) if there is an microwave interference to te RF communication between PDM and Pod, did Lizzy try to recomunicate after the microwave shut down or stay away from microwave further distance for confirmation ?
2) for the concern of electric static charge (ESD) iin lindy's case, did she remember the alarm message on the pod ? is it possible that her son hit the pod during the slide and cause occlusion on the cannula ? how did she fix it at that time. this info would help me understand the potential cause of alarm during sliding. thanks , bruce

Good Morning Kate,
Yes, indeed if you have any questions regarding the Omni Pod pump or just want to chat please don't hesitate to ask. As you may know there are good and not so good things that can happen with this pump. But basically it has made my life a whole lot easier. Be well, Linda

Well of course Kate, no problem. :)

The people here are going through the same things you are. We are all dealing with the Diabetes and have to think and act allot alike, so we may do a few differnt things, work in differnt jobs or even like differnt stuff, but to get through our days, we all battle ourselfs and a common foe.

It's pretty cool actually.

My mom came back from a High School Reunion and one of her friends gave her the sight, I have not always been impressed with "diabetic chat groups" but just went on the pump and wanted to find some info on it. I am so glad I checked in to Tudiabetes because I found someplace where I actually feel comfortable.

Glad you a friend and if I can help by leanding a ear or giving some tips on how I deal and figure stuff out, i'll do my best. :o)

I wish you well

Robert
