Depressed on Thanksgiving

My first Thanksgiving as a diabetic too. I'm going to eat small amounts but I will have pie. And yet, it is depressing because it just reminds me that I different from everybody else chowing down!

We all know it's Thanksgiving

I'm not having 2 dinners but I'm going to one at 3PM. So I ate breakfast and lunch really early but I'm worried about tonight. (Although I'll probably be high after eating the pie.) You could skip ...

I take the sharps container to our local hospital and swap it for a new one at the nurse's station. In the last community I lived, the pharmacy did a free exchange. When we travel I use a dedicated Nalgene water bottle with a screw top and dump th...

yeah I went online and saw where the sanitation station is. It didn't say anything about taping the bottles but maybe I should just to be safe.

Yeah, it's kind of a Catch 22 in California: It's illegal to dispose of them in the trash, but there aren't a lot of disposal places. San Francisco Walgreen's will take your sharps for you but the other ones won't. The East Bay disposal place is v...

I have been taking sharps in "official" containers to my doctors office for years. Only once did the nurse say"we can't take those". I left them anyway and never saw that nurse there again. Our local trash folks say to put them in a sturdy plastic...

In Roanoke, Virginia, our city does not require any special disposition. I merely put my pump disposables in the trash for curbside pickup. In my last locality (also in Virginia), the city required me to put sharps in a sturdy plastic container (b...

I know in California (where I live) you can't put them in the trash or anything. I was using an empty laundry detergent container but I wasn't sure if a disposal place would take them if they weren't in a sharps container. Of course, I still haven...

Do you live in the US? I have 2 containers that I need to turn in but the drugstore doesn't take them
yesterday
The drugstore where I get my supplies gives me a sharps disposal container for free, takes it back when it's full, and gives me a new one.

Where do you buy your Sharps Disposal Containers? Do you use other containers? And where do you dispose of them?

Health Net Sucks

I went to Walgreen's today to get my one touch test strips and the pharmacist told me my insurance doesn't cover them.
Yes they do I said.
No, now they cover Accuchek and Touchtell(?).
So it's Friday and they faxed my doctor. Hopefully I'll be able to get the new ones Monday but will have to buy a new meter.
Has this happened to anybody else? Pharmacist told me the insurance does this without any warning.

I confess I don't eat much, or I make my own so I know how much is in each one. Though I am about to try some new recipes with 'splenda' so I'll let you know :) x
Thorntons do a range of diabetic choc/toffees which are good here in the UK x

Hi and hope you have a nice weekend. The eating and insulin factor takes time to figure out....some foods make sugars go up faster and longer and others will spike and then drop...you may have different insulin amounts depending on the carb, just have to test and then increase humalog to each carb, food. I just takes time and practice. You will get the hang of it.
Baby steps and trial and error is all, we all do it and never perfectly!
I wish you well, and have a good wekend
