Do you have the Animas pump? Assuming, because at 19 months, think endos would recommend that one. Animas has a very nice tube guard (I don't think that is the exact title of it). You attach it to the back of the insulin pump and wind tubing aroun...

Our educator gave us an "EZ Wrap" which clips onto the back of our pump (we use the animas 2020). I just did a google search for it and didn't see it anywhere. It's a little piece of plastic and you wrap the tubing around it to make it as short as...

Anyone have any suggestions for keeping the pump tubing from tangling on everything? My son is 19 months old so the tubing is long enough to wrap around his waist or arm or leg...I can't find anything.

I would enjoy the fact that I could put Jude in the bath without the big ordeal of unhooking his pump. I could let him nap without checking his BG. I would let him have all the grapes he wants. He could wrestle with is brother without me yelling "...

Marie, Jude's numbers are slowly getting better. His last A1C was 9.1, which is fantastic for him, considering his have always been around 10 and 11. Thanks for sending us some good luck! Cathy, I don't really know what your doc was talking about....

Pump malfunctions SUCK!

We had our first pump malfunction last week. I guess it wasn't really the pump, it was the inset. I checked Jude's sugar before we went to bed. I was in the high 400's. It is not uncommon for there to be a random high now and then, since we're still adjusting all of his rates. I bolused him and went to bed.
Fast forward to 6AM....
Did Jude really just VOMIT on me??? What a way to wake up! Ughhhh AND I'm covered in pee. Yay. I check his BG. It's HI. Crap. I check for ketones. Moderate. Crap. I ca… Continue

Ladies and Gentlemen...We have a pumper!

Tomorrow marks one whole week with Jude on his insulin pump. It's a very momentous occassion, you know. No, I'm not going to buy a cake...a balloon, maybe. It has been quite an adventurous week. A lot like a roller coaster. Up and down and up and down, twisting, turning, TANGLING....that's sure not one thing I thought about when we hooked up my little buddy. The tangling, twisting, looping tube. I have no idea how one little guy mangages to get that damn tube hooked over his arm, through his leg… Continue

The next big step

I'm going to a diabetes class at Children's on Thursday to begin the process of putting Jude on a pump. The Endo and Educators want us to put Jude on an Animas Ping because it has the smallest (.025) dosing increments of any of the pumps. We also did a "site insertion" on him last week to see how he would tolerate it. He didn't seem as concerned with the poke as he did the fact that he had to be on his belly for a second. We were hoping that it would stay in for the full 3 days but it didn't. It… Continue

Judius Maximus the Diabetical Spartan

So. I guess my story kinda starts like a lot of other people's stories. I am a very happily married mother of two GORGEOUS boys. My husband, Jake, is a firefighter and I am madly in love with him. My oldest son, Reese, is about to celebrate his 10th birthday. My baby, Jude, celebrated his first birthday April 14 of this year. This is where things get "not-so-typical".
December, 2008.
Jude got a cold. No biggie, right? We took him to his pediatrician, put him on some cough medicine, suctioned his… Continue

Actually if you scroll down thru my comments, Suzanne provided a link to one of those videos. It's for a Paradigm pump not an Animas pump, but it might give you some ideas about how to avoid the dreaded pump bubbles, and there may be some more specific Animas-related vids up there too.

there is a LOT they don't tell you, and then there's a lot they do tell you but you don't really understand its importance till you confront it directly. That's one reason I'm writing a book on the subject--trying to bring all the bits and pieces I've gotten in various places under one cover! I found the book "Pumping Insulin" that was recommended to me by another tudiabetes.com member to be very helpful, so you should try it. There are also all kinds of vids on YouTube with how-to tips for removing bubbles and so forth.
