Haven't actually seen any doc's for a bit. We're meeting with the surgeon that did the TP on Dec. 15 and the regular doc for his 6 month on Jan 15. He was on Humalog 30/70 to start and they were adamant about him eating the same food at the same t...

Hi Katie, what did your doc say about using slower insulin? Is he open minded for these ideas? I would think that slower rapid insulin like Acctrapid can help here. It will kick in later and lasts around 4 hours. So it is active when most carbs s...

I had a very difficult balancing my lantus dose with my body's basal rates, I ended up with a split does at night and the mornings, but found I never had enough insulin to prevent evening highs, without fighting lows in the mornings. I have since ...

My experience.. Lantus doesn't "peak" exactly, but my insulin needs in the afternoons are MUCH lower... it took me a while to learn to take enough lantus to keep my afternoon #'s good, and then compensate for the rest somehow. On my pump my basal...

Yesterday V went for some tests. (When they removed his pancreas they thought they saw something on his liver - so far everything is fine) He's never been willing to do a fasting basal test (Bad Boy!) but, yesterday he had no choice. He couldn't ...

In other words - cold is an issue for some people.... Unique, much like everything else, we're learning. He is as active in the winter, so that isn't a factor. He just really hates the cold and has a hard time staying warm. He lost 40 lbs when he ...

I do not experience seasonal insulin sensitivity issues, but I do always go low on rainy days, strangely enough. It sounds crazy, but I've experienced it my whole life.

I change my total basal : summer hot : 10.9 u presently , not hot , neither cold ( YET) : 11.45 u cold winter ...freezing : 13.10 u . As you can see,the overall numbers not a big difference , but big enough to avoid Lows and Highs .Pumping makes t...

Hi -I live in Minneapolis and have experienced all types of cold. Plus, I take the bus to work so have stood on a frozen streetcorner in subzero weather many times. I find that I need less insulin when it's really cold. Everyone is different, but,...

I have and continue to experience this problem with the change of season. In the spring and summer months my basal need (not the bolus need) seems to reduce, but with the onset of autumn and then winter I always seem to need more basal. I recently...

I have never experienced any directly weather related insulin sensitivity effects - but is he moving around less? If he's hiding inside from the cold and is usually more active, this might explain it...?

My advice is for you to learn about Lantus insulin. It is a very good insulin but it works differantly for everyone. I used it for a while but I had an advantage because I use a BGGM. With it I found that my two lantus injections lasted around 13 1/2 hours. When it ran out I was without insulin for a few hours which raised my BG very high twice a day. Lantus takes about 2-3 hours to get going after injection. My AM shot ran out about 9 PM my PM shot got going around 12 AM which brought my BG down around 8 AM. My PM shot lasted to about 10:30 AM so now my BG went up in late morning.. So the solution is to go on a pump where by you can ensure that you are getting a good basal dose every hour not just most of the time when you are on lantus. Once I found out what was happening with my basal insulin I was able to figure out why I had all these highs every day. There is many good books out there to explain these things one good one is called Using Insulin for pumpers the book is Pumping Insulin, both are highly recommended.

The pic is of me when we were in Quebec city for its 400th anniversary! So true about wee pets, isn't it!!! How old is your doggie?? I've never been to France...would love to see where my roots are....sort of coming full circle, you know?
One of my sisters, her husband and their then 10 year old son rented a thatched roof cottage on the beach near Dieppe in Normandy...sigh!!! She brought me back some shells that are very much like the shells I collected on the St Lawrence, when I was a child in Quebec!! The architectecture of buildings in old Quebec is very reminiscent of those of north western France!!
Take care Katie. A la prochaine....linda.

Wow...14 years! That's quite a spell....do you plan on remaining in France?
My ancestors came from Normandy...quite a distance from where you are!
Is there an English speaking community where you are, in order to get away with not speaking fluent French?
