Updates from Kelsie

This semester has been a crazy one. I got my own (school owned and regulated) apartment and started off the semester making delicious and semi-healthy homemade meals. My blood sugars were alright and my best friend and now roommate tried to convince me that I needed to eat less Blizzards and McDonalds and more vegetable. (And for the record, I love fresh veggies and hate McDonald's). We actually got into quite a few heated arguments over my eating habits. I think I resented her for trying to…

So not good.

My blood sugar was 59 at lunch today. Aside from a splitting headache that I attributed to working, I felt fine. After lunch, it was 350 (I guess I overcorrected for the low). The headache got worse and I thought I was going to die from thirst, so normal symptoms there. I did a small correction, and then a few hours later, it was 63... and I still didn't feel it!

I'm so freaked out because I normally feel my lows happening. I do not want to have hypo unawareness (is that…

Red Tape

Posted on July 17, 2010 at 10:50am 3 Comments

I still don't understand why it's so complicated to get the Omnipod for me. It's crazy how many different people we've had to call, and all of them saying something different. "We don't offer it...we don't contract with them...we do offer it...oh, wait, nevermind..."

But hours of phone calls and being put on hold later, it looks like all the effort that my dad & I have put into this has paid off.

My dad finally found out that our…

Is it really that easy?

I e-mailed my new doctor today about getting an Omnipod. She replied and told me she sent the request to referrals (?) to get it approved.

Is it really that easy?

I sure hope so!

I really hope everything else works smoothly, but anyway, I just wanted to share that happy little piece of information!

Working Girl

Posted on June 2, 2010 at 8:23am 3 Comments

I am about to start my first job... ever. I'm 18 years old and have always been unemployed, except for the occasional baby-sitting gig, and then there's all that unpaid volunteer work I've done... ;)

Anyway, does anyone have any tips for me, diabetes-wise? (Or really, any advice you have would be helpful!)

I start in a couple weeks, if all goes according to plan... I'll be working in a grocery store bakery, so it's one of those…

Things have been going great for me and finding the FlatLiners group here has been a huge help.

How do you measure the work of volunteers?

329,040 minutes, 329,040 moments so dear. 329,040 minutes — How do you measure, measure volunteers? In smileys, in tears shed, in counsel, in cups of coffee. In units, in carb counts, in laughter, in strife. In 329,040 minutes – how …
