4 years ago today I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was 14 years old and a freshman in high school. I have come such a long way. I have graduated high school and now I'm living at college. I started out on pills, then insulin and now I have been pumping for a year. I have to give a BIG thank you to everyone over at children with diabetes forums. They have been such a big help to me and they were there when I needed them, then understood when no one else did. Oh, and my high school nurse, she was…See More

I had my lowest low and I almost passed out

Posted on August 29, 2009 at 11:19am 12 Comments

Tuesday morning was the first day since being at college that I had to change my site (I pump).

So my pump wasn't working right. It kept "spitting" insulin out. And I mean the whole entire resevoir. I had to do it a couple of times before I was able to get my site on.

So I decided that I had to call minimed and talk with someone. So I'm on the phone with someone from minimed and all of a sudden I got really dizzy, and light headed. I decided to check my sugars and what do I… Continue

Running out of pump supplies!!!

Posted on July 16, 2009 at 6:55pm 3 Comments

This crazy recall is really screwing everything up. I signed up for that automatic supplies refill thing through medtronic and I should be getting more supplies soon. I haven't gotten ANY supplies in months. I can't remember the last time.

I barely have any strips left, I have one box of resevoirs left, one box of infusion sets that isn't lot 8 (they sent it to me last week) ect. And they are not even full boxes. So I'm probably down to 6 infusion sets AND resevoirs. I change both every 3… Continue

Pills, shots and pump- I've been through it all

Posted on July 7, 2009 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

My freshman year in High school started out really good. I was a bit nervous to start, because I didn't really know anyone. But...like I said it started out good.

Until October/November came around.

So it's October/November and I'm sitting in second peoiod, Algebra, and my hands start shaking really badly. Oddly enough, it never occured to me to ask to go to the nurse. I called my mom after school and I told her what had happened to me.

"Mom, something weird happened today. I was… Continue

My first six months of pumping- in a nut shell

Posted on May 21, 2009 at 8:30pm 0 Comments

I absolutely love pumping and I'm so glad that I got a minimed. I love how I don't, for the most part, have to do the math (I'm not exactly an A+ math student, you know). I can go out with my friends and not worry about having to give myself a shot in public. I don't have to worry about keeping the insulin cold (I keep mine refrigerated). If I wanna exercise but don't feel like worrying about a snack I can reduce, temporarily, my basils. It all takes just a few pushing of buttons. And yes… Continue

Hello-
We started a new Pennsylvania specific group (http://tudiabetes.com/group/pennsylvaniadiabetics)

And- I was thinking that eventually we should have a philly meet up for all us at TuD.
Maybe Bowling for Blood Sugars? Get together, socialize, test, and try to see who can most closely match blood sugar value with bowling score. Winner gets... something to be determined.

Happy Wednesday, guys- I hope your sugars behave today.
