Hi Laura, 60% kidney function would mean a kidney/pancres transplant. However what you need to know is that most centers like to wait until kidney function is well below 50%. Keep in mind each center varies... Research has shown tha it is better t...

Wow Kitty - I just read your amazing story!!! I have a friend who was the 1st person in the USA to receive an Islet Cell Implant with IV Bone Morrow Infusion. She had had diabetes 46 years. She unfortunately rejected the implant 20 months later - but she's such a trooper as it has helped aid in further research into this area. an islet cell transplant a few years ago - and was insulin free for 22 months - but then her body started to reject it (this was done at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) in Miami, FL. She's now on a pump - but she said it was great being insulin free for the time she was.

Did you get a pancreas only transplant? I suffer from chronic pancreatitis, and i am always in pain. my sugars suck and i am just having a difficult time with it all. I got pancreatitis in 99 and while in the hospital they found a pseudo cyst which they needed to have mature ..so no eating for 3months. was fed thru tube to lower intestine after surgery i just wasnt getting better so they found that my pancreas stayed damaged so because of my terrible sugars i was sent to Endo and continue to see the same doctor i am now on a pump and disabled due to my medical problems that came from that.. i would love a new pancreas....was it painful ?

By the way, I was surprised and at the same time inspired by your remarkable story. For 40 years you've been battling with diabetes and now you don't need to take shots anymore. How I wished I can also have that transplant, lol. I wish you good health.

Hello Kitty. I'd like to know how are you now that you don't have to take shots? And can you give me some points how to manage a normal blood sugar? I've been diagnose for almost 8years. I really appreciate it if you post me a comment or message on my account, thank you very much. God Bless you..

After 36 years with type 1 diabetes, losing my left eye, a toe and neuropathy... I think it's great that you've escaped. I'm jealous.

Congratulations on your wonderful triumph over T1D! I have looked into both types of pancreas transplants but was unable to recieve one because of my rejection factor. However 36 years into T1D and I am doing ok, I too have D retinopathy and gastroparisis and some autonomic neuropathy as well but I am holding my own. :) ( I have some allergies to insulin which made me not a good canidate for a transplant.) However the current pump I have been using for the past 2 years has served me well! I wish you continued good health.
