Retinal Screening

Went for my first retinal screen yesterday. It was pretty weird. As with most of my other diabetes related appointments, I was the youngest and most mobile person there. My mum reckons that it's a positive sign that there are so many older people there - shows that it doesn't shorten life, but when I see the state of them all with the complications they've all got it hardly has that effect.

I was diagnosed when I was 7, so when I was at the kids clinic I didn't see the complications first hand. My first time at the adult clinic freaked the life outta me because suddenly I seemed to be the only one there who didn't have very obvious complications...it's scary, but you do get to a stage where you block it out. I usually take my ipod and a book with me so I don't have to pay attention, which sounds really bad but it's just about the only way to cope with it for me. I noticed you were only diagnosed a year ago...how are you getting on?

The doctors have recently suggested I go back to 2 injections a day - It seems like a good idea at first but then I don't have the freedom.
So do you not know any Type 1 diabetics either? Saying that, I don't know anyone with any diabetes.
