I had forgotten about this but you might want to look into symlin. It's supposed to smooth out post-meal blood sugars, but can also suppress appetite.

First goal should definitely be to try to bring your glucose levels back into a more normal range even if it means some weight gain because once you're in a more normal range healthier weight loss is much more achievable. Speaking from experience ...

Hi Kristen, Skipping insulin IS NOT the answer. Wishing your TDD could be 10 units/day IS NOT the answer. You've got to figure out what YOUR TDD (total daily dose) requirement are. It's complex, but get Pumping Insulin (I've recommended this to y...

Dave's right. High BG sucks out the energy out. Before the thirst & headache hit, the first sign I notice is feeling really tired. Eating lower carb meals you'll need less insulin. Yep, less carbs, less insulin, weight loss. Having enough protein...

You mentioned you have no energy. I'll go out on a limb and surmise that the reason for that is your excessively high bg's. If you get your bg's down, you may very well regain some energy that could then be applied to more activities/exercise, whi...

I have Blue Cross too but it really depends on your type. Mine is great because once I spent 2,000 the rest of my supplies and co pays are covered. I have a paradigm but I don’t use the sensor. I test compulsively and didn’t want to create any additional scars by putting something under my skin. I should say it took a long time to get to an A1C that was good (5.0). But as soon as you turn the leaf over it’s the first step. Also it took a long time to get to a weight I was comfortable with but I knew feeling good was more important and being “skinny”. Eating constant small meals and daily workouts will SLOWLY train your metabolism back to normal. You might have caused it to shut down by playing with the lack of insulin and eating schedule that you were on. It all takes time. But think of the future and what can happen if you don’t make the changes now. I would have never gotten better if I had not gone on the pump.

Hey Kristen!
Thanks so much for writing! I'm glad that you're reaching out! :-) First of all, let me tell you, that it WILL GET BETTER. And the fact that you're reaching out definitely means that you're taking the first step...keep up the great work! I know what you mean about "not knowing what it means to have energy and feel good". I felt like that when I was about 16, and I was having problems accepting my diabetes/taking insulin/even caring. Here are some tips that helped me:
Firstly, it's definitely all attitude...as long as you have a good one, the rest is easy.
Secondly, get organized. Gather up all of your syringes, throw out old bottles of insulin and replace them, change your lancet, get new test strips, glucose tabs, etc., because I have a feeling you weren't really keeping a check on expiration dates/changing and cleaning things...I know I never did ;-)
Make sure you also have a good endo and a strong support team at home. Diabetes isn't only your disease, it's a team effort. You need friends, family, doctors, and teachers who are there to support you and rally you on...because we all have terrible days along with the good.
Alright, so for me...you asked some questions. Yeah, I definitely test my BS about 10-12 times a day, and I NEVER used to check this much, but it makes me feel so so so much better when I do. And I always always always test as soon as I get up, and before I go to bed, if nothing else. Just get in the habit of doing it when you brush your teeth, so it becomes part of your daily routine, you know? And always before you eat. I carry my testing stuff in a pretty little wristlet, so it doesn't look like gross medical paraphernalia...and it works! I always carry it in my purse. And spice up your low supplies so that's not dreaded either...I usually carry fruit (healthy and not awkward to eat in public), but pick whatever works best for you. To keep my weight in check, I exercise daily, but not just for diabetes. Exercising just makes me feel good, and I've been very active even since I was a little girl. Currently, I run 2 miles/ 6 days a week, and I cycle 5 days a week, but just being active in general, no matter what your activity will boost your sugars and make you feel better and confident!
I am also vegetarian, and that naturally helps with my bs levels...hmm so each day I probably eat 100 carbs. I try to stay with lots of fruits and vegetables, and heavy protein. And I do not eat desserts. I know diabetics these days are very liberated with all technological advances, but to take so much extra insulin over nothing isn't good, either.
I usually take 1unit/15 carbs, and 1 unit lowers me 80 points.
I also steer clear away from any type of sugary drinks, because that's just excess sugar.
Oh gosh you're probably overwhelmed ...!!
I hope that this helped, even if only a little bit....if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to write, and I'm willing to talk about anything!!!
Feel better!
love love

Hey Kristen! Thanks for friending me, and I'm glad you found TuD! Yes, I had diabulimia for 18 yrs, and I finally got past it. I had retinopathy a little more than 10 years ago, and had a bunch of laser treatments and a vitrectomy. I have diabetic mastopathy which is a breast disease most commonly seen in type 1 women with a history of poor blood sugar management. I've had some gastrointestinal problems, and a rapid heart rate for which I have to take medication, both due to autonomic neuropathy. I also had a lot of protein in my urine, and was headed towards irreversible kidney problems, but I pretty much got my BG's under control just in time, and my kidneys seem to have stabilized. So it's been a lot of things, but I'm really lucky none of it has been more serious. I think I have good genes overall (despite having gotten T1), so I think that's the only reason I don;t have more issues. I decided not to have children, for a lot of reasons, but partly because I didn't want to put more of a strain on my body than I already have. I chose to go on a pump because I thought it would help me have better BG's, although I still had my eating disorder for the first couple of years I was using it. I've been very happy with my pump, and wouldn't give it up. I was very resistant to the idea of getting one for almost 10 years though. As far as getting over the hurdle, it wasn't any one thing. I was getting more scared about what I was doing to myself, I was scared about being on dialysis, I was tired of how my life revolved around my eating disorder, I hated how it was affecting my husband, and I knew I wanted to help other diabetics, but I couldn't do that until I figured out how to help myself.

So, ya, hopefully that answers some of your questions. I know Marie directed you towards my blog, and there are a fair number of posts about eating disorders there, although it's not my usual focus since I've been eating disorder-free for 4 years now. I hope you find some motivation and inspiration from being here to help you manage your BG's better. I can tell you I feel so much better now, physically and emotionally, than I used to feel. If you want to talk more, just say so!
