Intro

I am currently living in Budapest, Hungary and working on my phd in political science (comparing the effects of welfares states on poverty in Centeral and Eastern Europe). I am originally from the Detroit area, but my husband is from Hungary. I have type 1 diabetes, diagnosed in 2003 (at the age of 21). I use the Minimed Paradigm insulin pump (used to use Cozmo 1800). After a year with A1c's under 7, I am now struggling to manage my blood sugars. Pregnancy is something that we would like to consider in the near future... so actually under 6 is the goal, but one step at a time! Glad to have found this community!

my eyes have good vision that's why it's a very stupid oedemia. Yes I know, I must have a good control of my blood sugar. Levemir is good for me, few lows. I hope to fight and win this battle but it's hard to hear a doctor told you " you must have a rendez vous in 3 months, and if your vision goes down before you must call me". and "if I use laser it will be very difficult". yesterday I was really down, sad about all. I'm not a sad person, I always Hope. Thank you my friend.

hello Kristin, yesterday was a very very bad day. I met my ophtalmo and the oedemia, who is closed to the macula is growing and she things that's the effect of changing my insulin. I knew that it was not well during summer and that I need some months to find again a good A1C! In september it was not so bad , I think 7,4. I'm really really down. If the doctor shots me with laser, she told me that I can say goodbye to my right's eye view (90 % of my "good" vision). So the month for diabetes is not a good one for me. I hope you're well.

First few weeks were extremely difficult. My daughter hated shots and literally would fight us to avoid it. When you are 5 years old and go from no shots to 4 shots a day with no say so- well, life just doesn't seem to make sense anymore. But, after a few months she adapted and was tolerating them well. We started the pump in July and overall that has been much easier. (At least now she can have some ice cream and we can bolus her for it - that makes it a little easier! :-) But overall, it's just our "new normal". We're trying some different things with all natural supplements and good dieting and so far BG and A1c's are looking good. We actually go back friday for another clinic visit and A1c test. So, hopefully that one will go well too!

Hi Kristin. I have a six year old daughter who has type 1 diabetes (diagnosed 12/29/08), so we've known for less than a year. I also have many friends with type 2. Thanks for asking.

What did the podiatrist do to diagnose you? Did you get the tuning fork test or a poking test? I had bad foot pain and the doctor checked with the tuning fork and found no nerve damage (just sore feet).

I hang my pump from my belt loops using MP3 player cases or the Clip'n'go. I think it's less noticeable when it dangles at the side or back. I find it gets in the way less than when I wore it in my pocket. Now I only buy pants with belt loops! A ...
