Time to get serious!

Hello all!

I'm so glad to have found this community. I was diagnosed Type 1 nine years ago but up until the last 2-3 years, things were going really smooth. I was able to keep my A1C readings in the upper sixes without even trying. Recently however, things have gone downhill and I'm having a hard time dealing with it. I need to get back to square one and relearn all the basics like having a healthy diet/exercise plan, figuring out my carb/insulin ratio, etc. My wife and I are looking for some encouragement and friendship as I try to turn over a new leaf on an old disease!

Well I got some great news the other day - 7.5 A1C reading! Now I know this isn't stellar and I still have a ways to go but considering my last result was a 9.3 I was pumped to get this result.

The main 2 reasons my results have gone down so much were 1) I started logging EVERYTHING on www.SugarStats.com. I gave trusted logins to my wife, nutritionist, and endo so I know at any point they could check in and see what I've been eating. Now of course I could cheat and just not log when… Continue

Changing meds

Well I finally went to the pharmacy and wasn't able to get my exubera. I knew this day would come but I still hate it. I'm now back on the Novolog Flexpens like I was before.

About a week after I switched back to novolog, Phizer sent me a box of a ton of exubera. While I definitely like the inhaled insulin better, I don't want to keep swapping back and forth. I'm just now getting used to the novolog and I'd hate to swap back to exubera knowing that I'm just going to have to go back… Continue

Back to square one (and a little history)

So I had a doctors appt today.

9.3 A1c. I was not thrilled.

I have been diagnosed Type 1 for 9 years now. When I first found out I was 16 years old and had no clue what was going on. It was scary but kinda cool at the same time. You see that first day when I found out I had diabetes I had an amazing experience with the Lord.

At age 16 I had known Christ as my Saviour for 9 years. I loved the Lord and really strived to make him "in charge" of my life. The problem… Continue

I work for a Biotech company here in San Diego. We have offices all over the world, and I'm a part of the machine that ties them all together. I help manage all the switches, firewalls, routers, and LAN/ WAN infrastructure. Luckily, we have a good network team so I can stay pretty focused on my duties. Touching all kinds of technologies is cool but don't let them spread you out too thin my friend!

Hey Kyle, what are chances that two diabetic guys that do network technology for a living both bring their A1Cs down from the 9s to the 7s?

Post-college was when I really took control also. I think it has something to do with growing up and realizing you want to live a long time (and we aren't getting any younger either!).
I love my pump, but some people don't like it. I couldn't imagine my life without mine though. I wish you luck and smooth sailing on getting your diabetes back in control!

Hello and welcome Kyle. I know you will be able to find the support you need here. This site has been a wonderful place for me to come for support.
Diabetes is tough to live with at times, but we can control it. Are you on a pump? I know that helped me bring my A1c down a lot.
I went through a really rough time in college when I was having trouble with my diabetes. Most of it was my fault, but some of it was just changes that I needed to make in my insulin intake.
I wish you luck in your quest to get those numbers back down.
