I just wanted to stop by to see if you've done your Big Blue Test Today. Dont' forget that every time you log a Big Blue Test $5 is donated to diabetes charities that are providing life-saving supplies and services.
If you haven't yet, go log a Big Blue Test at http://www.bigbluetest.org/. If you have, do another!

Linda G said… Hey Laura...you were inquiring about the meaning of GDM.
It means Gestational Diabetes Mellitus :)

Linda G said… Hi Laura :)
I've noticed quite a few here diagnosed on or about Christmas!!! What's with that??
I'm a lover of history....so am rather drawn to (but not limited to) historical fiction. My fav author is pretty much Diana Gabaldon. I also like Philippa Gregory, Wally Lamb, Lolly Winston, Frank McCourt....and the list goes on! We have a few antique and second hand book stores here, and will frequently find some real gems. But I'm not only an avid reader...I'm a self confessed bibliophile!
In reading your comment about similarities between type 1 and type 2, I I remember reading in a couple of places that one can be both types....type 1 with insulin resistance!!!
My husband and I are both type 2....I have a strong diabetes red thread running through my family quilt. Mostly type 2....but with some type 1 for added flair ;)

Hello! Thank you for having me as a friend Laura!
Bath....a bit of a distance, but it feels like you're right here! That's one of the appealing factors of tu.diabetes. I'm in Canada...in the southwestern part of the province of Ontario...a city named Kitchener-Waterloo (2 cities joined together). I'm a wife of 33 years (hubby is also diabetic), mom to two grown children (one 28, the other 26), a grandma to 3 lovable little boys, a teacher, and before that an illustrator (still do some) and graphic designer....I speak French fluently, I read, history fascinates me, I paint, sing, walk, garden, ski, ride my bike....did I mention "read"? I love having friends over, I bake/cook, am an eclectic music lover, an animal lover...the ocean...ah the ocean...it speaks to me! Oh...and I have diabetes (and a few other things).
Nice to have you as a friend!!! Tell me a bit about yourself!
Keep in touch, ok?
hugs....linda

Welcome home Laura....fellow type 2!
Not quite a year since your diagnosis; still recent! How's it all going?
This is a great place to share, to learn, and to grow...all the while meeting new people world wide, and making friends.
Take a peek at some the groups when you get a chance. Just go to the top of your page, and click on "Groups".
Once in, you can either peruse the wide array of available groups....or simply type a specific interest in the space provided.
Take in some of the blogs/discussions as well.
The resource boxes at the top of the home "Home" page, and
"About us" at the very bottom of your page and every page (the footer), offer you more information still.
