No worries at all, my fall has been similarly crazy! Like you it seems, I've been on just about every antidepressant out there, some old ones too that most docs wouldn't consider prescribing! I was on Effexor for a while, and that was the worst one for me, it really messed up my thinking and combined with other meds I really wasn't functioning... I'm on Wellbutrin now, which has worked well for me so far. How did it affect you? It's hard for me to tell if it has any effect diabetes-wise since I was on it long before dx. I'm hoping to go off meds at some point, but I'm not quite there yet, will def monitor things closely once I do get there.

Being a diabetic veg has gone okay... I'm a lot more cognizant of getting protein at every meal that I used to be. The hardest part has been finding out that I'm allergic to eggs, which since dx had been really important to my breakfast numbers. Since then, I've found a protein powder that works well with oatmeal and things are looking better. I'm actually beginning to think about eating some meat--not because of diabetes, but because my body just seems to be telling me that it needs it. It's hard to think about doing, esp since I've been vegetarian for like 9 years now, but I suppose if my body needs it, I've gotta listen. We'll see I guess... how has being veg been for you since your dx?

Hope you're well too and that your finals wrapped up okay! Happy holidays!

Hey Lauren, I'm from Madison and thought I'd say hi! I also read your intro, and I'm wondering about your experience with antidepressants. I've been on them a whole lot longer than I've had diabetes (I was just diagnosed with T1 this summer), and was not aware that they'd effect blood sugars. Have you found something yet that works? I also saw that you're veg (yay!), and I'm definitely going through the same thing you did with trying to figure out how to get lots more protein than I used to. Hope you're well!

probably the funniest thing i've ever witnessed

The guys that live in our basement just found out I was diabetic today, so they decided it would be cool to use my meter to see what all their blood sugars were. One thing led to another, and it ended up turning into a competition to see who could raise their blood sugar the highest. In round one they did things like chug juice and stuff as much candy as possible into their mouths. After round one they tested again, and the two that had blood sugars lower than their original test didn't go on to… Continue

My Introduction

I've never been very good at writing introductions. I never know what is "important" enough to include, or what nobody really cares to read. So, I apologize in advance.

First, the basics. I was born in Denver, but we moved around a bunch when I was younger because my dad was in the army. Right now I'm a sophomore studying nuclear engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I'm thinking about adding math as a second major, but I'm not completely sure about that yet. Math and science alwa… Continue
