I use the quicksets, and I do use the quickserter. In fact, I have two of them (one I keep in my travel kit). I've inserted manually, but I find it's much easier to get it right on the first try with the serter. When I insert by hand, sometimes I...

1. Try Sure-T's 2. if u like them, you won't need an inserter. 3. Sure-T's are the only sets I will use, because I used other sets for years and got sick of the problems with them. Do YOURSELF A FAVOR and get some Sure-T's. They don't even MAKE ...

I have been using a MM pump with quickset for about 8 years. I lost the insertion device about 6 months after I got the pump and have just been simply interting the set by hand with no problems. Use one if you want to but it is not really necessary.

Thanks :) We have a fire station approx. 10 mins from my house so I might have to do that.

I would recommend calling or stopping by your closest fire station. They are more available and willing to answer non-emergency questions than a hospital staff member would normally be. It's not uncommon for elderly residents to stop in and get th...

Thanks so much Melissa!! I always thought that they surely would check more then one place but its good to hear what someone who knows what he's saying says :) Maybe I could check locally. Do you have any advise on where to call to ask a question ...

I emailed my dad who is a paramedic and a fire captain. He said that most paramedics will check for any form of medical ID (meaning in all of the usual places, neck/wrists/wallet) and that, if in your home with nothing else to go on, they will als...

John I agree that its hard to beleive that they wouldn't check both. For now unless I hear something very strong saying to wear it on my left it'll be staying on my right :)

Thanks :) I'm right handed but wear it on my left because i wear my waatch on my left.

I think if I could make the "rules" I would allow for a ring of some kind, rather than a bracelet. I am a T2, and think I am pretty well controlled at the moment, but its important information anyway. The point would be, I am not a jewelry kind of...

I once asked a paramedic and they said they check both wrists and the neck for anything, so I'm not sure it makes any difference. Call your local fire department and ask what they recommend. Mine is on my left because I'm right handed.

Batteries, infusion set and pump syring (with alcohol pads) in the car. On me I have insulin and syring (low bottle to use as pump replacement) , BG meter, extra BG meter, money, Skittles, extra bottle of strips, drug list, MedicAert, and a phone....

lol I would gladly do it if its important I just figured if it was I'd have heard about it more often! I guess now I'm seeing that a few more people have heard that :)

I noticed you left a comment for me about my pump and I completely didn't see it until now. I can see you have now started on it. Are you liking it? I had the clear for my first pump and now have the charcoal one. I often cover it with the skins, but I do like the clear and charcoal equally. I don't really like the look of the MM as much as the Animas, but I opted for the minimed paradigm as I really wanted to use the CGMS integration technology. After trying the CGMS, I learned we were not a great match (lots of inaccurate readings). I have since started on Dexcom's Seven Plus CGMS system. I am still pumping with a 522 paradigm, though. I will consider trying the Animas when my next pump change occurs next year. But, that decision will not be made for sure until the time comes around..and the company with the best, most-enticing technology wins my vote. Animas has come a long way and I think they really have a lot of technology similar to minimed. For that reason, I may finally give that company a try. Up until now, minimed's technology has always won me over. I am very happy with my pump, but may be ready for a change.

How did last week and this weekend go for you? I was high all weekend, I think my carb ratios need to be different, and I need to consume less quantity. =) I am too nervous to use temp basals. I was at a dinner party, and an anniversary breakfast buffet at a fancy restaurant. I just kept programming additional carbs and boluses! I've only gone low twice, which is good. Probably shot my A1c...

I am doing okay with this thing, but am having trouble covering big meals in the evening. I am going to do a lean cuisine, then fast until lunchtime tomorrow. Hard to tell if I am going high because of high protein/fat consumption, or dawn phenomenon.

My problem with carb counting, is I didn't really think in numbers before. I just knew what I needed to take through experience. =) I may be under counting carbs, then taking only what the pump recommends. I have added a couple units here and there for corrections. This thing is definitely handy!

How are you doing?

Still loving it. I survived two insertion changes. I still stress a little about doing these but I'm sure it will become second nature. How is it going for you with these? Where are you wearing yours? I've experimented with it in my pocket (if i have one) and I like this best. I bought a thigh thing and used that today, I've also tried hanging it under my arm, clipping it to my belt (showing) and using a velcro belt that has a case for the pump.
I've been going a little high in the AM so I'm going to have to work on optimizing my basal doses a bit but otherwise it's going awesomely.

How about for you?

I just started the pump this morning at 11:12. I took 6 units of lantus last night as my last routine shot! I have to call the nurse with my clinic every day, did you have to check in with someone every day?

I posted this in your discussion but wasn't sure if you would get it:

I was on the Minimed 722 too (for about two years). It was fantastic. The only thing that I will warn you about (not to rain on your parade) is that my doc told me Humalog clogs the tubing sometimes in intense heat. And since our bodies are 98 degrees (ha ha) my tubing clogged pretty often. And, I'm in MA, so I'm not too far from you- so it had nothing to do with the weather in our area.

My doc suggested using Novolog and Apidra instead.

Also, didn't know if your trainers had a chance to talk to you about concealing it (if you're interested) Minimed makes a slim clip that you put the pump on and hook to your jeans, etc. I used to wear mine turned inward (face of the pump against the cleavage skin) inside the middle of my bra. That way the pump was out of the way, and hidden from site (unless I wore low cut blouses). I didn't have any trouble with that and I didn't have to worry too much about the "sturdiness" of my pants, skirt, etc. With the weight of the pump, it would sometimes drag my pant waists down a bit.

Congratulations! I hope it works out for you, truly.

The saline went great! How is your insulin start? I start insulin tomorrow! I am taking a reduced evening dose of lantus, then no morning dose. I had fun programming my blood sugars and carbs into the saline pump, and getting calculations of how many units to take. It was spot on except for when I pushed it too far. I was wrong, it was right kind of thing.... =)

Alright - $9 is right up my alley! I'll see if they sell them here in Canada at Walmart - if not - I am only 45 minute drive away from the US border. Have to head there again (was there on Sat - but only motorcycling - no shopping due to not being in your country for 24 hours) - so will make sure I stay longer.
