That's unimaginable, Melissa! I've never heard of such a thing, and I can't think of how that can even be legal! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, especially *now*, but I hope that you're able to get it straightened out asap. Hopefully,…

I'm always delighted to meet other diabetics. 2008 will mark my 30th anniversary with this disease. I spent a long time being angry about it and not managing it properly, and while I've experienced some unfortunate consequences of that, I'm doing quite well all things considered. I've developed an appreciation for this disease, and let go of the anger and resentment. I can see how it's made me a better a person, and how it's shaped my life. I wouldn't be the same person I am today without it. While I won't deny that it can be frustrating at times, nothing feels as good as accepting it and dare I say, embracing it. It takes far more energy to fight it and hate it than live peacefully with it.

I was featured in an Associated Press article about diabulimia.
‘Diabulimics’ skipping insulin to slim down

I was scheduled to be on FOX's The Morning Show, but minutes before I was to be interviewed, I passed out when my blood sugar got too low (I mistook my symptoms for just being nervous about being on live TV!). The show was live so I missed my opportunity to be interviewed on the show. They interviewed me afterwards though, and posted it on their website.
Recovering from diabulimia

I was interviewed for Diabetes Living Today. The interview was during the second half of the show, starting around 32:00.

Hey! I know from some of your blogs that you suffered from diabulimia. I do too. I'm slowly in the process of getting better. I was recently hospitalized for DKA, my sugars have been in control for the past 3 days, totally normal every time I've checked. My whole body is swollen. My face, eyelids, hands, fingers, arms, wrists, legs, feet, stomach - everything. Did this happen to you? Its so frustrating. Every time I wake up I am soaked with water (sweating) - like soaked. I have a constant headache that only goes away if I take aspirin. I feel uncomfortable from all of this. I have probably gained like 10-15 lbs in the past 5 days, its ridiculous and so frustrating. Can you help me with any of this? Does it ever go away and if so how long does it take? I still have no energy to move and I feel weighed down from all the water retention. I'm literally just laying in bed all day, day after day, hibernating waiting for this to all go away and to just feel better. PLEASE write me back with any opinions /advice/ information. I would so greatly appreciate it! Thanks- Kristen

I just read the article that you were in on MSNBC. I think I too have diabulimia. I have had diabetes for 8 years now and have NEVER been managed. It said you were diabulimic for 17 years. You've overcame it? and What complications have you gotten? Are you able to have children? How did you get over the hurdle? Did you get persuaded to go on the pump, because my doctor wont let up on how I should? Do you like the pump? Sorry so many questions Its just amazing to be able to talk to someone who is going through the same thing as I am. Write me back!
