Sara was able to go to France and is there now. How???



1) She knew if her A1C didn't drop, she couldn't go. In two weeks she had a little improvement (I know it is just a beginning). She went from a 13.4 to 11.8. It was going in the right direction so she was able to go.



2) She will have another A1C in August.

I'm still working on my dissertation, still working full-time and still struggling with the diabetes thing with my daughter.



Yesterday we had her A1C come back at 13.4. In shock and rather annoyed...since she'd promised to take care of herself while I am SO busy. We had a "tete to tete."

Sara uses Lantus and Humalog. We usually get 2 bottles of Lantus per month. But just recently we went to the Walmart pharmacy...the one we've used for nearly 5 years now....and they wrap every thing up and staple it.closed. Well, after I got home with the bag of supplies and insulin, I opened it up and found only one bottle of Lantus. So I called to alert them to the missing vile. "oh no," said the pharmacy clerk, "you can only have 1 vile now. Our policy has changed." What? How can I not be…

Summertime activities for Sara

We were determined not to make a big deal out of our d-journey. It wasn't that we were ashamed, we were just isolated. In middle school, Sara just wanted to fit in. The summer after she was diagnosed she attended a day camp that she really enjoyed... Camp Bluebonnet for one week for Central Texans.... it was held at Peaceable Kingdom in Youngsport, TX. Hi there. I'm back posting the next part of our D-journey. When we left the hospital, Sara was placed on a strict CHO count and times for insulin. It was so daunting! There was so much to learn..and the concept of more insulin lower the number! I laugh thinking back now. While Sara was in the hospital, I went home to shower and get supplies. I got juice boxes, crackers and other snacks....then I bought those tiny zip lock snack bags with canning labels. I labeled everything....calories,…
