confused

i don't know what i'm doing. i tested this morning and my sugar was 128. I had an egg, a piece of turkey, and some green beans for breakfast....my sugars have been high all day since then...it is frustrating. Everyone in my house just went to get some food, but I stayed back because I'm afraid to eat and I didn't want to be tempted. I feel awful because I was kind of harsh with them, and I'm usually not like that, but I'm trying to get myself on the right track and the only way I know how to not… Continue

I'm pretty lucky...

...but I have a hard time believing it. I've got wonderful friends, the most wonderful boyfriend any girl could ask for, a good relationship with my dad after many years of struggle, and a roof over my head. There is just something that I can't get over, that keeps me stuck in a rut...it makes me feel helpless...like I'm failing everyone. I know they don't think that way, but I've always been afraid of failure.

I've had my misfortune, who hasn't? My mom passed away when I was 12, my dad had a q… Continue

everyone has a nickname. Some are scary, some are funny. I regret that I didn't make mine something to do with diabetes or something to do with my career. If I could go back and do it over, I'd pick a name like "sugar" or something, and my number would be 100. Or "Sugar Shock" and be number 400. Something cool like that, that only diabetics would get. ha ha, I think that would be funny. Keep that one in your back pocket for ideas later!

that is great to hear!!! even though I've been "retired" from playing publicly. I still play at practice and still really love it. I'm coaching my home team this season again. If you are ever interested in some derby schwag, my husband and I run this site and we make/design all the goods. We don't do the screenprinting, but we do everything else. derbylicious.com
Keep in touch and let me know how things progress! What's your derby name?

sorry it has been a while, i have been working alot and my diabetes kicks my but also. we moved over christmas and that kick me down too.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to u also. we spent time with my husbands family playing cards and teaching my brother-in-law how to care for his newly diagnosed diabetes. His doctor and endo never showed him how to operate his glucose meter, i was so mad. I helped show him how to use it and explained some of the complications if he don't take care of it.

He hates needles and it just happen to be time to change my pod and showed him how it works. He flipped, it was funny cuz it was no time at all to change the pod and restart my pump. He calmed down and was amazed that i could do it. I too hate needles but i do what i have to do, right?

I want to be here for my grand babies.

I am trying to get a new CGM and am having difficulties with insurance but i will win in the end. I watch my clients who struggle with diabetes, cancer and other health problems and the fight they go thru and they are my inspiration to take really good controlling my diabetes and be there for them.
I work in home health and they really make me realize and understand what will happen if I am not in major control. Heart and kidney problems and amputations, complications in surgery and more.

I really love the people I work with and go the extra mile to help them any way I can.

Well time to go for now and chat again, I like hearing from you.
Have you decided what pump you like?

Hi Libbie,
Good news after fighting the doctor on friday for my daughter we got her the Omnipod that she was being so stubborn for and I also snuck in the paperwork for the navigator for her and I had called her insurance company to see if they were covered and they said yes. we are now faxing out the paper work tomarrow and she will be set to go. YES we finally win and in March she will see my diabetes doctor and we will not have to fight so hard any more. A good doctor with understanding makes a big difference, my doctor and my educator are both diabetic and my doc also has a pump. We are winning a small war to stay healthy, but it seems to take for ever to find the good ones.

Hi Libbie,
well a little up date, my daughters insurance refuses to pay for the omnipod and she refuses to use anyother pump. yep a no win situation, do u use a insulin pump? i am asking cuz my bg's were out of control too until i started on a pump. my first pump was the animas because i like to be different and all my educator knew was minimed and my daughter had that one will many problems. so i was on the net doing research on pumps and my educator was very aware i get my way when i want to have something. determination to control my sugars after years of denial and refusal to admit i m diabetic. i too as an adult with 2 children, but i was not on meds to start with like my daughter. now i do everything in my determined mind to help other diabetics anyway i can even if my story helps others i will tell it over and over. i really love my pump and it has helped me alot. oral meds made me very sick and i found they are sulfa based and i am allergic therefore am on insulin and healthy.
i wish u all the luck on control and we are all here to listen and help any way we can. contact me anytime to talk.

god bless libbie

Hi! You should definitely check it out! Don't let diabetes keep you from it. I did it for 4 years. I have since "retired" for many little reasons that add up. Doing roller derby, to me, was like any other exercise. As a pump user, I would decrease my basal rate a little bit before exercising, through the exercise time. For the meal after the exercise, I would only bolus 50% insulin. However, on game day, it was a different story. Game day always made me nervous. So nervous I couldn't eat. My blood sugar would creep up all day due to my stress and then sometimes, I couldn't play in the entire game cause my blood sugar would be too high. Then the meal afterwards, I wouldn't have to dose for at all because I had so much insulin on board from the highs all day. It was a bad cycle that I couldn't get a hold of. After retiring, I still play at practice, I just don't compete, so I still enjoy it, without the complications of "Game Day". Message me if you want to talk more about it. I didn't mean to write so much! Also, I would take off my pump while playing, but if you are on shots, you wouldn't have to worry about that! Just keep sugar with you. Goo worked well. My recommendation would be to try it and see how it goes! It was probably the most exciting 4 years of my life.

Libbie - welcome to TuDiabetes - it is great to have you join us! Liek everyone else has told you, feel free to ask for any help/advice/support you may need - & check out the forums/groups to read discussions concerning any of your issues with our disease. I have had T1 for about ever, & there is no easy answer to your frustration, I'm afraid. Have you asked your doc or diabetes educator what you should do if your glucose is above a certain level? Have you talked with your doc about other methods to control the disease/glucose levels(re: a pump, if you think it would work for you? I love my control with my mine, but not everyone does....)? Try not to think of the high levels as a failure on your part - maybe view them as a failure on the part of your current control regimen. Your doc will most likely want to see evidence of this failure if he/she is going to adjust or change it, so do try to keep records. Your doc needs to see how you end up not eating in order to try & bring your glucose levels down, also. Wish I could give you a hug - sometimes the disease just really sucks, & I know this is ione of those times for you. Hang in there, and do let us know what happens - what route you are going to try next to help even things out. Take care, and again - welcome!
