Well, it's a drag having such a limited diet now, but my life is so hectic, in some ways, it's a great way to keep myself on the straight and narrow health wise.

I suspected I was diabetic for 6 months prior to my diagnosis, but put off going to the doctor for it and only shared some of my symptoms and minimized their severity with my Doc - didn't want to face reality. I was never much for self control in the carb department - in fact, I never met a carb I didn't just like, I never met a carb I didn't LOVE.
I thought I had the stomach flu a few months back, but my husband made me go to the ER after 2 days of vomiting. I was admitted to the hospital the Thursday before Memorial Day with DKA and a blood sugar of 1224 and spent 4 days in ICU. Now I have good control over my blood sugar (usually in the 80-130 range), and I eat to live, not live to eat. Trying to do the Dr. Bernstein Diabetes Solution thing - good book with lots of awesome info in it.
I never learned to cook, so the range of stuff I eat now is really small. Hoping some day for a less hectic, financially easier life where I can low carb cook for myself. In the meanwhile, praying for grace, strength, mercy, patience, and understanding for you and for all of us. Thanks for the welcome.

It has been 3 months I have been doing Birthdays and Welcomes yet my name does not appear under Latest Activity. If I do not remember the name I have to go way to the bottom of the page to see if I did send a Welcome. The new gal from Italy sent Welcomes the first day she joined. Hr name appears mine does not so annoying. Manny is working on it. I jt needed to vent. Reed

Thanks for the positive support. I have considered going to a dietitian, but I can only go if my insurance pays for it.... Have an eye appt schedule for today. I'm kinda looking forward to it -- new glasses! Yeah! And I really like Doctor Ben [last name is Japanese, so could begin to type out his name. :)] I've been reading allot of Diabetic books, on my fourth... I'm confused about how many carbs per setting or day. Seems everyone has a different opinion on it. I'm going with 45-60 per setting. I did real well last night, didn't forage the kitchen for 'extra' snacks. [pat myself on the back] I did order a blood pressure cuff off Amazon as Dr D suggested. BP been high each time I go in. But my BP will be high if my Fibromyalgia pain is in play. Pain does elevate your BP, which could be reason why my BG are high [for what I've read.] I could be wrong.
Teacher, eh? What a honorable profession!!! My hats off to you. Teacher's dont get enough praise. I hope you have a great year and only a 'few' problem children.
Well, I'm off to get dressed for my appt. Chat at your later - luv u 2 - Kat

Lately, my blood sugars have taken a different pattern...frequently elevated in a.m., before breakfast... has been as high as 8 or 9 (162), but will usually dip down to around 4(72), right after a meal, before climbing back up, so that 3 or 4 hours after a meal I'm at 8 or 9(144 or 162)...also, will at times dip as low as 3(54) any time in the day for seemingly no reason. Also 1.5 once(27). The diagnosis date is sketchy, as I think I actually had it for a while before being actually diagnosed
