I think that would kind of defeat the purpose. The whole reason of going on a pump is to mimic the act of a healthy pancreas. An adjustable basle rate is just one way of getting better control. It is an interesting thought, but I'm not sure anyone...

I was on Lantus. I started at 20 units a night, I kept getting krazy A1c above 7 like you. Eventually I was up to 45 units a night. To me, that was a painful shot everynight. I was also on 3 shots of apridra every day with my meals. I am now on a ...

Good question. Lows are normal I had those to until i got my bolus right. Could be an absorption problem. If you have pens that go by .5 increments, it should be about the same as using the bolus wizard I would think. I would go on a pump vacation...

The following link will give you any information you need. http://studentactivities.tamu.edu/online/organization/OTQzOTkw/profile#profile-public

It's the first group on the campus of its kind and I'm very excited to get it up and running, however I need everyone to spread the word! I'm also looking at starting the same type of group across the US on various campuses, so i… Continue

Hi everyone,

A friend and I have created our own ning network if you would please check it out. We don't want to steal anyone away from tudiabetes of course!!!

Our focus is on global diabetes....from the financial side of it to lack of treatment to just lack of networks and support.

When Diabetes Isn't the Only Issue

Diabetes has been a part of my life since I can remember. I've never known life without a chronic illness. That's simply the way things were.

For a long time, I didn't have other health issues. Diabetes was front and center. And it was easy, easy enough anyway. I knew what it was and I knew how to treat it.

But in the last two years, I've developed more symptoms than can fit on one page. At (I was then) 17 years old, life shouldn't be filled with pain, fatigue and unbearable mood swings.

Ther… Continue

Numbers Game

As a tightly controlled type 1, I understand that lows are a part of life. My pump trainer once told me that the "suggested" "normal" rate for lows is 1 every 3 days, with 1 below 60 low per week. Well, according to that logic, I'm a walking low machine.

In the past 3 days, I have had 8 technical lows, with 2 below 60. That isn't counting the many below target but above low marker readings. Over the past 3 days, I have eaten so many calories, I could have fed quite a few Chinese quake victims.… Continue

Hi Lindsey - thanks for your comment on my blog!! I use Apidra in my pump, and my doctor recommended bolusing 10 minutes before I eat (actually, that was even before I was pumping . . . when I was using Apidra with MDIs). After reading about insulins in Pumping Insulin, I tried bolusing 20 minutes before eating, and it seems to be working better for me. Of course, it will be different for everyone, as you know. And I probably should have run it by my doctor first - so don't follow my bad example!! LOL
