A little bit about us
My husband and I live in the state of Queensland, Australia close to our families. Unfortunately we do not have children of our own but treat our nieces and nephews as if they were to the point they forget and call us 'mum' or 'dad'. We have worked together since the day we met (1983) and have been married since 1985.
Our priorities are our families and spending quality time with them as well as with each other - you see working together and living together and holidaying together can be overwhelming (for some) but we seem to cope (so far).
We took up sailing and finally saved up enough to buy our own little sailing boat (our pride and joy - our escape where nobody can catch us - except for the mobile, email and dicussion boards...thanks to my husband having rigged the boat to be totally in communications with the outside world.
We work all over Australia as and when projects are thrown our way but as we get older we tend to want to stay closer to our nieces and nephews for fear of missing out on their lives and experiences as they grow.
After 26 fun-filled, food-filled years we are starting to show signs of our excessive lifestyle (i.e. too many family dinners; get togethers and reuionons with friends and not a lot of exercise for one reason or another -- there has always been a reason in there somewhere).
Now, at 50 and 60 we hope it is not too late to get our act together or at least learn to live and treat our bodies with a little more kindness and respect. We still love our food and socialising of course, but things are starting to change for the better.
I am thankful for an online community such as this one where I can immerse myself in so much information, support and new ways of dealing with Type 2 diabetes. Thank you to those of you who have chosen (or accepted) to be my friend or have welcomed me here. :) Liz
