After 6 weeks of going back and forth with the DME and Insurance company, we are finally getting the Navigator for our son today. I am planning to start using it right away assuming it is pretty straight forward. After using various pumps (OmniPod...

I have used sensors that were up to 3 months past expiration, with no problems. I doubt that Abbott would replace any sensors that failed in the first 5 days though, if they were expired. -Lloyd

Pumping for T2's

I was asked by a Cozmo rep at a diabetes expo if they could use me in their advertising.

I said yes, even though they offer no compensation or frebies.

There was one mistake in the article that I missed in my checking, my average glucose went down in 2 weeks, not my A1C!

Starting a local support group.

The nearest diabetes support group is 60 miles each way, so I decided to start my own.

I took the diabetes forecast article http://www.forecast.diabetes.org/magazine/features/success to my local small town newspaper, and they did a feature article on me and diabetes, including my announcement of the forming of the group.

Uploaded pictures of the article.

The Freestyle Navigator by Abbott

First off, I'll ask you to follow this link to Abbott's website, for an excellent description of the Navigator, and a simulator that lets you try out all the buttons on the receiver.

Initial Setup

Abbott does not sell the navigator itself, it has a number of distributors. I got mine from Smith's medical, as they are offering a large discount on it to their customers. The ordering process went very smoothly, I downloaded the necessary forms in p… Continue

Thanks for the comment Lloyd.
Of course I know where Prospect Park is - I love the way that neighborhood is all tucked away on it's own. I few years ago I was at a gathering and hadn't made note of where I parked my car - boy, the streets seemed to have no order to them, and with all the twists and turns and hills I was afraid I'd never find it.
Someone told me "no, we hardly ever order a pizza - no one can find us........"

Hi Lloyd - I'm practically your neighbor (I live in Minneapolis).
I have been following Richard Vaughan's story telling and questioned why he was dissatisfied with a standard deviation of 27. He told me about you and that you are his "pumping guru" so I came over to see who this superman was.
You sound like you've been very proactive in your care and that's a great example to set.
I wish you good days ahead!
