Hey there, I can totally get what you're saying, I reckon I am a survivor and a fighter and I have learned that you gotta push on through, I have had plenty of Cr*p to deal with, in fact still do, but perhaps the T1 has, in it's own twisted way, m...

I had my A1c done at Walgreens which is a pharmacy chain here in the States. It was free. It was a month and a half before my next one at the Endo but I just went on the pump and been watching my carbs and it was already down from 7.5 to 7.0. So j...

Oooooh that gets my goat!! I hate it when people who don't care in the first place keep trying to fb you off with mis-information. Glad you managed to get it sorted and hope your Doctor writes the right prescription, hey maybe you should write it ...

I have been a T1 diabetic since I was 3 years old. I have one little brother, my mum and dad live about 4 miles away in a house on the moors. I live in a town in Cornwall, in a rented maisonette, with my other half, Rich. Were I married to him I’d have 4 step kids, 4 step grand kids and a rescue cat (who remembers that felines used to be worshipped as gods) called Oscar.

I am pretty convinced there is a squirrel gene, I am incapable of throwing stuff away. I won’t buy it if I can make it, which invariably means it’ll take more than a year to appear in my home, a footwear collection which is bordering on obscene and a penchant for baking and jams and chutneys oh the irony.

I have had insulin dependent diabetes since 1983, and have had poor control for most of my teens. I think I was dismissed as a rebellious teenager. I’ll freely admit there was a period where I ignored my diabetes and abused my pancreas, I just desperately wanted to be normal, as if being a 5’11’, busty, angsty hormonal teen wasn’t enough but there was no support from the Dr’s with the most important issue of my erratic T1 and then to be branded ‘non-compliant’ adult, was just a kick in the proverbial nuts, dammit at the age if 22 i felt like i was trying to wade through treacle,.

I’ve had numerous miscarriages, viral pneumonia, a nearly exploded appendix, DKA, night time hypoglycaemic comas (brief but scary), been clinically depressed (boy that’s a drag), overweight, underweight, tired and at times just plain sick.

As my biological time bomb exploded, having had 4 failed pregnancies and no help with anything diabetic, I finally took the bull by the horns and changed my medical team. It was the best move I ever made. I am now pumping and on the books at the infertility clinic woohoo!!

So welcome to my life. It’s mad, chaotic, tough, skint, creative, generally happy and if you read it in a novel you’d wonder where the hell they came up with the plot.

It's not a wall its a very steep incline...but I'm getting there

Having felt quite down recently, today appointment has proved less traumatic than I worried it might be. With past experience in mind i dread sitting in the corridor outside his office as though I've been sent to the head master, waiting for a looming giant displeased dickensian nightmare with a ruler smacking his palm, to summon me for chastisement, humiliation and punition. It is infact nothing like that, the waiting room is airy, cheerful and comfortable, and Dr B is a gentle mannered, kind a… Continue

Today I got a pat on the back, a prod in the foot, a jab in the arm and a shoulder to cry on

Today I had an appointment go my Gp.
My morning started with the mother and father of all headaches. I was on target for getting to the drs though, and then the phone rang, it was my mum, and is terribly ill having had the Swine flu jab (it is probably a horrid coincidence as she also has an autoimmune disease) then while i was speaking to her my mobile kept ringing, persistently, so i answered and my other half was frantic as an electrician was about to turn up 10 minutes before i was du… Continue

Sarge, the cannula's out and we got a bleeder!!

Well last week I was pottering about while the maintenance man was replacing the sink in my flat (appartment for my cousins over the pond), which for a long time had a crack in it but was exacerbated by the shelf falling off the wall during one of next doors marathon door slamming sessions!! They are now ex-tennants and its so beautifully peaceful that I cannot express it in words!!

I digress, I was pottering about making myself useful, making tea and supplying biscuits, setting the world to ri… Continue

So I now know what it's probably not....

My hospital appointment today was lengthy but a relief, this is mainly for me to look back at, but feel free to read on

My Dr R said she thinks my symptoms (raised ANA levels, swollen joints, pain in joints, extreme tiredness) aren't lupus and probably not RA, as I have no calcification or erosions. I had a raft of tests, mobility, bloods, xrays the lot :oS

I have a cracking great bruise, it was a bleeder oh boy!

I'm not a very good patient though, I don't really 'feel' pain, an example being… Continue

Eye lady she say......

Well done :o)!!

Seriously, todays events from the beginning, I hate all D related appointments, I am always waiting for them to drop a bombshell and tell me 'well it's started...' or 'you know how tight control is sooo important well.....'
So dutifully I psyched up for today.

Travelled to my appointment, on perhaps the brightest day in the UK of 2009 (there is a subtle irony here, in that I wish for an overcast day to make it easier on my battered eyes when I go back outside and every single e… Continue
